Ok, I gotta know - how much do you PAY for these big steam engines at the shows? I see them priced around $75-150 at the shows for the big boys like these. Do you get them way cheaper, or just pay that much? That's one reason I haven't bought any, they just are way up there in price, and I know I'm not going to run them as DCC engines. Just curious as their prices at other shows.

I paid $30 for my 2-8-8-2 Y6b and $35 for my Berk, both were at shows and no haggling, though I probably could've knocked off another 5 on the Berk with some arm twisting, that particular vendor and I go back a bit...

Ben that "G" is a O scale MTH model that does not get ran anymore because it does not have DCS and I don't run my O stuff in "conventional" anymore.
Jerry the mallet was part of a large AHM set that was cataloged through Montgomery Wards it came with the set box all the component boxes for the nine cars and loco and original transformer cost me $125.00 plus 18.00 shipping from a private seller.
My Big Boy was 40.00 boxed but that came from a postwar Lionel dealer who just wanted to get rid of it quick.

One of my project engines, I hope to create an AMC Thrill show consist, using this Bachmann Thrill Show engine. Got to finish converting some Nabisco boxcars to AMC logo paint and lettering, and get'er DCC'ed as well.

Should be a fun consist when I'm done.

Your prices are way cheaper than the ones I see here in the Mid-Atlantic area for train shows, I'd jump on it if one sold for $30-40 , but I rarely see them under 3 figures. We must have the Gold Plate specials here. Still, I'll keep my eyes out for deals, they've been good the last year with the economy tanked, so I've been buying the small stuff like TYco engines, Hustlers, the odd Alco C415. But no price drops on the big boys like you guys have that I've seen. Wow. I can see a whole set for $180, I just can't justify $100+ for steam engine that I"m not going to run DCC at this point. I'd rather buy 10 pieces of rolling stock or a few diesel engines I can convert and run.

This is my LOTW:
It is a recent resurrection / restoration and repowering done by my buddy in VA for me. The "can" motor is now located in the cab:

I believe it is a D&RG (actually a non-specific) 2-6-0 was imported by International. Made between 1950 and 1956. This is what i was told by friend whom I consider to be an expert when it comes to brass models.

According to my friend in VA that restored it:
"The solder job on it was horrible, so I disassembled the entire frame and steam chest, cleaned the parts up and re-soldered everything right. I also had to replace the drivers, they were all bad. I moved the motor to inside the cab, instead of the tender, it will run much better this way. I used a medium sized can motor and a Korean gear box with a short derlin drive shaft I made from parts of an Atlas diesel engine. It runs nice now"
