I started with a SF Alco shell. I'm going to try to order the decals and match the numbers as close as possible.

I used Testor's Grabber Blue but just saw another blue, for this job, that doesn't look as
good IMO.

Wow, those colors look pretty convincing. That was really a nice paint scheme; shame it didn't last longer. I have the new Athearn "fantasy" AC4400 in that paint scheme.

Thanks spiderj76 for the pics of your two Big Alcos from your site that were my only references at estimating the colors, the size of the stripe, where to cut off the gray on the front and rear walkways, and how to produce the place on the snoot where the stripes merge.
Here's some more progress.

Thanks, Spray cans are fast and this isn't perfect. I don't have any speed when using an airbrush.

Did Great Northern have this paint scheme in real life? Aside the solid blue with white logos & it was the last GN scheme before the BN merger of 1980

Yes they did have this color scheme. You can see examples at railpictures.net. I don't know whether it was the last color scheme before the merger. Thanks for that info. Oh, here's a link:

Microbusss,
Thanks for the link and info.
I'm stalled on the decals so I mocked them up. Here's a look.
