A cute vintage model train store still exists near Piscataway New Jersey.

The Model Railroad Shop has been in business since 1933.

Norfolk Southern freight line is just blocks south of the store.

A cute small park is near the freight tracks.

I went back to the store before closing time. I bought a train magazine. I have bought train items there in the past.

Definitely worth the visit for people living nearby.

Another store that I go to in New Jersey is located at Mountain Lakes.

They sell vintage HO scale items as well as Lionel items.

NJ Transit train station near the store. Is a restaurant and bar now.

Mountain Lakes is a few blocks away. More like a large pond.

Holy smoke, so unusual to see a model train shop. I cannot imagine the overhead of that nice
little stone house- they must do a whopping business to stay afloat. Locally, we've still got
Hal's Hobbys, which primarily caters to the RC crowd and motorized miniature vehicles.
Hal told me that model train sales account for only 11% of their income.

I haven't bought a model train in a while now, partly because I'm try to finish up
all the different projects I have scattered all over the garage. When I did get something,
it was either from Britain, and the postage was often the equal of the item itself, or
something hard to find on eBay.

Lately, I've been salivating over the thought of an Australian C430 with matching caboose.
