...an American Flier talking station? I saw this in an antique mall today. I think it's No. 1 scale. It contains a record player for the audio. I love how Gilbert took the existing technology of the day and made something cool!

Ken, Justin - The No. 799 station looks like what this is. As far as price, I think the dealer has it as part of a set, with track, transformer, and this consist:
Priced at $750 - too much for me! Still, I wanted to share with anyone who might be interested.

Yes, AF wasn't the only one with a talking station, I don't think. I've heard of them, and seen a few, but haven't really wanted to drop a dime on those myself. But they are pretty cool.

Man that is cool. 1950's engineering and design was pretty fantastic. Does the clock on the front of the tower actually keep time?

Ben, it has the record in it.
Eric, I didn't really pay attention but I think the clock is a sticker or something similar.
Ken, Thanks for those links, they were very helpful. I see that the needle mechanism is missing, along with the tower roof, awning, and steps, and probably some other parts. The missing parts could be in the cardboard box I have the station posed on. Since I was not familiar with this station, I didn't know what to look for. I'd be surprised if it was all there though.

American Flyer also made a Talking Station in HO (HO-257). It was cataloged in 1950 using the same basic sound mechanism as the S gauge station.

* This is a coooool station Glen ! The tower and entrance part can be placed anywhere along the station section. Gilbert did a good job making this station. I also like the train shed. Kenny, great catalog page. * As the buss says " Gimme, Gimme , Gimme ! frank

Frank, I agree, this is a cool station. Unfortunately, it's been over a year and a half since I saw it, so i don't remember where it was!

Glen if you seen it in a Antique store , they probably wanted a lot more then it was worth and settled for a lot less. Well what's good it that you know they sold a lot of them. There is a chance to see it again sometime. It appears the roofs, steeps, and overhang were all made of plastic, maybe bake-o-lite and didn't last. Keep looking ! Thanks for sharing what you found. frank
