Got this a few months ago. Just had it rebuilt. American Flyer New York Central #443. It runs excellent, smokes like you would not believe and is very heavy, all cast.

Ken, a 448 Hudson? I've never seen that number before, and I can't find it in the Gilbert HO database. http://gilbertho.org/home.htm
Does it have any extra features, like a whistle in the tender?

i've started to buy one of those myself, but i don't know if i can get over the blind center drivers. i've never seen one in person either, but i do think everything else looks great & all metal is a big plus.

Jerry,
The later 5 digit models have better looking drivers. Besides, Mantua steamers had blind center sets. I think you'll like them for the smoke & chug unit alone.

The 443 was produced in 1955 without a headlight. It was made with a headlight from 1956 thru 1957. The 443 was replaced with the 31005 Hudson in 1958, when Gilbert went to a five digit numbering system.

That rear trailing truck I have a couple of them floating around someplace! I know I got one used on a Mantua 2-8-2 to make it a 2-8-4......
Works well too, BUT, fits perfectly, and i was wanting to build something other then, the original as it one, was missing and 2, the factory Mantua part fits and works well, but the smaller trailing truck gives the loco a slightly different look!
I'm building a B&O "R-1" 2-8-4, which was never built in real life, BUT was in the shops in Baltimore for building but never made it off paper, as the diesels took over!
