My latest acquitsition is about to arrive to my house. Its a Mantua/Tyco 4-4-0. I knows it cotton wrapped wire is fraying and I have a roll of 20AWG a good replacement?

Yes, 20 AWG should be sufficient for this application, Justin. I wouldn't go any smaller due to the higher current pull of the older motors, but that's far larger than the Power Torque got in later years. SO it should be ok to use for your 4-4-0.
