This loco is a Proto 1000, it was on the consignment shelf at the LHS for a while at $75, a few weeks ago there was a train show about an hours drive from my house, the LHS was there and so was this loco. The price was $10 at the show. I fixed a broken axle gear, added a Digitrax DZ123 and it's up and running.

I think that qualifies just fine, and so does this pair of RDCs. $10 for the pair at a train show. The dealer kept going on about "those rubber band locos" and indicated that he had a stockpile at home that he would sell me. I never followed through, but apparently he can't sell "rubber band locos" and doesn't take many to shows with him.

How you gonna move them if you dont' take them along? I'd buy them in a heartbeat, long as they're not asking $30 apiece! Gotta be realistic, of course. Nice pair there.

| I like the rubber band locos, especially since there are some really nice old school shells that can be found. Unfortunately, I've never enjoyed how they run. Even my "best" ones only run well at high speed.

I get my rubber band drive locos to run very well at low speed with MRC controllers on pulse. I also use a tiny bit of dextron transmission fluid to lube the drive shafts. They still start a little fast sometimes, but I get them to gear back nicely.

I just hate changing bands on them - especially the F7/GP7's. Its a royal pain disassembling the trucks. The Hustlers are pretty easy tho. Larry

Here is a Model Power Alco FA2, started life as a cp shell. I cut off all the molded on pices, including the squares on top of the shell that held the air horns, added home made metal ones I also add alco lift rings. All I new now is to install air hoses and air horns That and to finish the B unit, as well as make a matching Powered A unit

I just fixed my Amtrak Plasser so it runs, so far all the ones I've seen at auction don't have the track cleaning gear, mine doesn't either, but it looks like your UP does have it. I'm thinking the TC version must be rare. Just don't see any of them equipped to fight gunk.

New auction buy, a rare?, old metal Gilbert Switcher. Haven't tried it yet, just got it out of the box last night, was too tired to fire it up. Some paint chips, but overall looks decent for the age. Missing couplers and a pocket cover, but otherwise complete.

My HO Gilbert collection is expanding, I may have 7-8 pieces by now. I have lately been organizing my stock by Maker, I've got two boxes worth of HO Lionel, still working on Marx, Varney, and Gilbert collections as far as getting them in one convenient box. But making progress organizing. This particular piece was in a lot of 17 pieces, with a couple other engines ( Rivarossi steam, Bachmann Diesel ), shells, and rolling stock, all for $27. So not a bad deal. First Gilbert "Hustler " I've seen for sale, and it's all metal.
