A few weeks back I had a rather off beat discussion with a friend who is also into trains. Don't ask me how we came up with this...but what if the railroad companies participated in or ran the Iditarod Alaskan Dog Sled Races???
*Would the Santa Fe come up with a mutant no-headed dog with a tail on both ends (a canine B-unit) and run their dog team in an A-B-B-A consist?
*Would the Norfolk Southern enter only to find out that their team of Huskies, Malamutes, and Wolf Hybrids just don't run very fast running "long hood forward"?
*Would the Union Railroad of Oregon enter the race with a 500,000 lb sled pulled by a single 14 year old Fennec Fox? (though they would have a "new and heavy" back up unit available...a 12 year old Yorkshire Terrier, should the need arise.)
*Would Amtrak hit a bad stretch of trail and end up bussing their team around it?
*Would Guilford/Pan Am Railways' team consist of a small sled pulled by 24 dogs..14 more than needed, just in case any of the ten regular dogs break down?
...and once they reached the end of the race, would the teams be turned on a wye, turntable, or would the coast back all the way in reverse?
Any imput? :) :)
