Was at a train show a couple weeks ago and picked up a Tyco Shfiter that looks to be '60s era - metal body, plastic "99" cab - but the roadname is not listed over on the Tyco resource page. It's a Rio Grande, with the script roadname complete to three short stripes on each side of it, like the F9's lettering appears, but slightly larger.
It's missing a few pieces and was sold as needing work, but I'm sure I can patch it up, I have a bunch of parts engines.
Any idea what year(s) this might be? Train set only perhaps?
The other uncataloged thing I've seen turn up now a total of three times is the shifter with a brown painted "99" cab. I have two (one super rough) and I passed on one Saturday with a B&O tender as it had a chip out of the cab roof. Have yet to find out what the story is on that one.

What the heck is a " Shifter " ? You mean a 2-axle yard Switcher? Like a Hustler?

Ah, since I don't follow Tyco's steam offerings that closely (yet), no wonder I missed it. Thanks for the education, Tony.

I recently acquired 2 of Shifters myself. Each is marked on the engine with the number 99. One is in the "red box" with a tender marked as Pennsylvanio and the other one is out of the box and the tender is marked Santa Fe. The person I got them from said they are from the early 60's.
Does anyone know how much these are worth?

Well, I finally acquired a shifter of my own this week. I need some ID help with it. Says Made in Macao on the bottom. Not a Tyco, the stack is tapered, the Tyco one is straight. Closest thing I've found searching is a Model Power with a more tapered stack, but it still isn't quite right. Here's the photo evidence -

I will probably try to strip off the red paint to see what's under it. Anyway, hope someone can tell me who made this. I'll keep searching myself, of course.

You nailed it, buddy! Hit Google immediately, and up popped identical Lima 0-4-0's like mine . Didn't think to search on that one, I always seem to forget about Lima for some reason. Hope mine runs better than it looks! Could make it a Santa Claus Shifter.

The 60's Tyco Rio Grande and Northern Pacific 0-4-0 Shifters are the most difficult to find. I have a Rio Grande somewhere in a box in storage. I saw a Northern Pacific Shifter in a lot a couple of weeks ago on Ebay but the tender step was broken so I passed on it. That was the only one I have ever seen.
