Well, the Washington DC area got SLAMMED tonight by mixed weather, in the order of rain, sleet, and then snow on top. RIGHT at rush hour. I left a bit early, at 4:30 pm Wednesday, and just now got home at 12:30 AM THURSDAY - 8 hours of icy freeway hell. Would have rather taken the train, but it doesn't exist except N/S, not anything going E/W for my commute. While it had it's fun moments ( listening to pine trees crack beside the road and wondering if they'd fall so I could see it - nope, missed it ), cars and trucks in every ditch, inching along - I figured out my 8-hour, 25 mile commute, at 3 mph average, I could have walked home at that rate. What an evening. Called the wife every hour to let her know where I was. Think I'll go in LATE on Thursday They'll be cleaning up downed trees, power lines, fixing traffic lights, removing stuck cars, etc. I've now experienced one of these epic events, and I think I'm DONE with them. Don't want any more like THAT tonight! Anyway, home safe and sound now, can check the Tyco Forum for stuff, and then hit the ol' sack...er bed ( not the wife ).

Sorry to hear about your bad commute. Worst storm I experienced was the winter of 97. I had to drive my then Ford 2wd pick-up loaded down, from Milwaukee to Great Falls, MT. It was considered the snow storm of the century. Most on ramps were closed from Minneapolis to Billings.Normal time is 27 hours. Took me 3 days to get to my base and wa able to report in with only 1 hour to spare.

Wow, and I complained about 8 hours! LOL. I got home early compared to others, the local news is now reporting people JUST getting home at 3 and 4 AM, so I did well. Even Prez Obama had to be driven to the White House, took them an hour from Andrews AFB, they wouldn't let Marine 1 fly ( chopper) LOL! Once I could get off the major Parkways and onto major secondary roads, I made more progress...but to get to those I needed, it was either impassable or risky side roads or the major jammed highways. My 4x4 Jeep is now a 2x4, as my front drive is inoperative, so I had to stay on the major roads. Even so, I had less trouble with ice than other vehicles. Luckily I've got fairly new tires on it for traction. Oh well, made it home, sucking down some coffee this morning, watching the news and NOT rushing to get ready for work. I may get into work by noon, or before, but not by much. Not risking a long morning commute.

Jerry - can relate to your commute to - In the Charlotte area - We had snow then ice on top of it monday Jan 10th 2011. I was off work - so my friend in his 97 F250 and i had my 79 F250 went out in it pulling people up hills and out of ditches - Below is a photo of an 18 wheeler that got stuck on HWY 27 in Mt.Holly NC where i live - Road was shut down for hrs until a heavy wrecker could pull him - hwy was a solid sheet of ice and 2 steep hills - no plow trucks for hrs. another major road was closed for hrs due to another 18 wheeler that spun out at the bottom of a hill.

Trains wouldn't of help you out either. Metro North today from New Haven to New York City not running any trains. Weather causing big problems , did anyone see the news video of the door coming open on the train going in to NYC? Bus, where do you get your copper at? What is the price of scrap brass right now?
