I just saw on Ebay that a red and white burlington GP-20 went for $52. Yes it was new and had a sealed handrail kit with it, However I also saw a used one last time I checked going for $23..... Anyone know why the prices are so high on these?? I have 2 red and white burlington SD-24's and they are common (however I havent seen any on ebay... Are most GP-20's more expensive than other models??

Thanks,
Mike

The Burlington GP-20's are not particularly rare. However, a red box TYCO locomotive (not played with) still in it's original box is quite rare. Auctions can be strange events. You can get what I call "bidding frenzy": some people just won't be outbid no matter what the price. Some people may consider this type of purchase an investment and just about any price is o.k. because it's value will only go up. (supposedly). Also, there is shill bidding which, in case you haven't heard of it, someone artificially bids up the price. This kind of plays on the "bidding frenzy" to work.

Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.
