Hi - All - I will be listing some of my personal train collection for sale starting this weekend. I am on short term lay -off again -so i have decided to start selling to help pay bills. I have taken a hard financial hit over last 3 years which has included the loss of our home and 50% income loss for me due to the never ending bad economy it seems here in the US and this year is not looking any better. I will be selling some Tyco along with other HO items. I need to reduce my collection anyway as i have no where to set it up. Payments will be accepted through pay-pal and U.S postal money orders only.
PLEASE NOTE - THERE WERE SOME OF YOU THAT BOUGHT SOME ITEMS THAT HAD SLIGHT DAMAGE WHEN YOU REICEVED THEM LAST TIME AND I VOWED TO MAKE GOOD ON - I HAVEN'T FORGOT WHO YOU ARE - FORGIVE ME FOR BEING LATE BUT WILL STILL HONOR MY WORD TO YOU. THANKS - BRIAN

I'm sorry to hear that Brian...I've had to face the loss of a home myself, it's never easy at the time but, like Job, we can come out the other end all the better for it.

Wow... this isn't the kind of news anyone likes to hear. I hope things get better for you soon. I've too faced a life-altering job situation and had to scale back my plans, but I didn't have kids at the time. At least your priorities are in order... and things will have to recover at some point. If I can help in any way, you know how to reach me... hang in there buddy.

Sorry to hear about that Brian. I'd like to say that things will get better, but I really don't know. The local paper is running weekly articles about "tent city" a homeless camp down by the river. At least if we all end up there, we'll have something to talk about.

I feel your pain Brian. I've been laid off sense July of 09. i have three more unemployment checks coming, & after that I'm not sure what's going to happen. i personally think the reason this country is in the shape it's in is partially due to the big wigs making all the money & the people doing the work doesn't get their fare share. at least down here in the south it's like that. that & everything being made in China. i personally think if they want a global economy, there needs to be a global pay scale, & I don't mean cutting our pay in the USA to match theirs in China. If they had to pay the Chinese workers a decent wage, we would be able to keep jobs here in the USA. even lionel went to China.
Plus with all the off shore companies stealing u.s. designs & are still able to bring it to this country & sell it to us. That is screwed up. I bet if some politician had a patent on something & they stole the design, it wouldn't be allowed in the country. i'm mainly taking about performance auto parts, but i'm sure it happens with everything.
sorry for the rant.

Brian- send me a PM with information about what you do. Perhaps through networking someone is aware of something that you'd be interested in- you never know.
As for the thoughts on the economy- yes... there have been a lot of things that have gone on that were screwed up- for a very long time. I wish that I could share what I know... but not in this thread. Bottom line- I'm not a big wig- but I do believe I'm uniquely positioned to understand far more than I probably should.
We as a country been focused for years on the short game as a country. Easy money, expensive loans, etc- but not on the long game. Our leaders have committed to fulfilling wants instead of setting the conditions for us ourselves to secure our needs at the individual level. We continue to raise the minimum wage- but become more dependent upon other countries- countries who may not value us or others. We spend more on programs than we take in. We've become too worldly and too much into "things" and strayed from the "big picture".
I pray for all those who don't have jobs. Each one of you is important in this life- don't ever forget it or lose sight of that.
This maybe be a trying time- but we never get more than we can handle. Perhaps that is even a compliment... someone must think very highly of you in order to challenge you this much.
Good luck guys!

But remember - This is a great site full of great people and if we /i didn't have it - i would be miserable to an extent as it is nice to escape this world and come into this one - keeps you mentally balanced to a degree as it is an outlet .

Know what Smokie (Jerry) we need to keep your "Rant" up. Until the fat scum can't stand it anymore! Stop the meritocracy talk. The wealthy largely got there by ill-gotten means.

Christmas 2011 -- Birth of a New Tradition
As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide North American with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods -- merchandise that has been produced at the expense of Canadian/American labor. This year will be different. This year North Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for others. There is no longer an excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by American hands. Yes there is!
It's time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper? Everyone -- yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local hair salon or barber?
Gym membership? It's appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement.
Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, locally owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates.
Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plonking down the $$$$ on a Chinese made flat-screen? Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or games at the local golf course.
There are a bazillion owner-run restaurants -- all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn't the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint. Remember, folks this isn't about big National chains -- this is about supporting your home town businesses with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open.
How many people couldn't use an oil change for their car, truck or motorcycle, done at a shop run by the American working guy?
Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day.
My computer could use a tune-up, and I KNOW I can find some young guy who is struggling to get his repair business up and running.
OK, you were looking for something more personal. Local crafts people spin their own wool and knit them into scarves. They make jewelry, and pottery and beautiful wooden boxes.
Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip. And, how about going out to see a play or ballet at your hometown theatre.
Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands.
Honestly, people, do you REALLY need to buy another ten thousand Chinese lights for the house? When you buy a five dollar string of lights, about fifty cents stays in the community. If you have those kinds of bucks to burn, leave the mailman, trash guy or babysitter a nice BIG tip.
You see, Christmas is no longer about draining North America's pockets so that China can build another glittering city. Christmas is now about caring about us, encouraging small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams. And, when we care about our neighbours, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we couldn't imagine. THIS is the new Christmas tradition.
Forward this to everyone on your mailing list -- post it to discussion groups -- throw up a post on Craigslist in the Rants and Raves section in your city -- send it to the editor of your local paper and radio stations, and TV news departments. This is a revolution of caring about each other, and isn't that what Christmas is about?

Actually Justin this is a pretty old listing. I think things have improved somewhat for Brian, at least I hope so. I revived it because I liked Jerry's (Smokie) comment.

And you know this how, or do you just enjoy painting with a broad brush to stoke class envy? I don't think political invective is appropriate on this forum anyway.

I have no objection to highlighting class systems at all, and their characteristics. I know because I can see and I can reason. I don't envy them Nelson, I simply want people not to steal from working folks so they can have more. See Goldman-Sachs et al.

Government steals form our pockets every day far more prolifically under the thin pretext of helping us. They pat us on the head and give us a cookie, and hope we don't notice their hand in our pocket at the same time, but the public sector is so much easier to demonize because people love a good Dickensian tale of class envy. A company that is run poorly will ultimately suffer in a free market, unless it is bailed out or the beneficiary of government cronyism, which has happened quite a bit in the past 3 years.
Might I add that places like Oakland, CA are burning due to irresponsible, hateful rhetoric like your initial statement.
It's high time to call in the National Guard.

Users of "Hateful Rhetoric" to some was what the English called the framers of your Constitution. That puts me Mills would say in pretty good company.
Are you seriously suggesting that people acting crimminally are doing so because some have chosen to speak up about an injustice they perceive? Clearly what I have in mind is not that and you know it, Thats a soccer dive rhetoric wise.
I want a multi-Million dollar run company on Wall street not to make it near impossible for a hard worker to not be able to afford to fix his childs teeth without loosing his home. Thats what I want. Is your point about gov't correct, of course. Do you truly think it negates the other. Really, look over here! So you really want a "Kent State". I find that hard to believe. Should looters be rounded up and prosecuted, certainly, it's not an either/or situation.
