Hi Gents:
Has anyone transplanted a second powertruck into a Super 630? Sure would give it nice pull! Also can anything be done to improve the characteristics of the PT engine/Truck?
Cheers, Gareth

Interesting that you bring this up today...just this morning I was paging through a 1975 Model Railroader and it included an announcement for the then-new TYCO Shark Nose. MR stated that it had a single power truck, but that a second power truck could be easily added.
Anybody done this??? Guess it could/should work okay...wouldn't it?

Hey Tony:
I haven't looked, but do both truck do electrical pickup? Cause if we throw another power truck into a C-630 (Snaps in right) and I assume it's roughly the same for the Shark, we still have to get juice right!?

I have put another power truck in a C630. The brass wheels of the 2nd power truck must pick up power from the opposite rail as the 1st power truck. The wire that went to the unpowered truck from each power truck is connected to the frame of the other power truck. This runs the motors in series.

Hi Ray:
Really appreciate your description. I cut and pasted it with a jpg of my Super 630 (D&H) for a future project. Do you think the same thing would be possible with the Tyco Shark or any of the similar Tyco PT models?
Cheers, Gareth

Dual PT motors should work in all of the locos. I haven't checked the GP20 or C430 for clearance in the long hoods, but since it worked in my C630 I would guess that they will fit.

Doesnt Wiring them in series halve there speed?
yes, i'm back, never really left, just was busy with school. I'm sure you know what i mean
Anyways, i'll be on the lookout for another PowerTorque to fit to my Sharknose. (its a Midnight Special, and just for the record, at my train club, i run it alongside an Athearn SW1500 and an NEW Atlas SD24. i know, i am messed up, but we have 3 tracks, and its a loco............ if you could call it that). i know, its Sacreligeous. But you know, NO ONE has even asked about it. and it pulls like anything, and thats with only one power truck

I have done it with a Bachmann F-7. I bought 2 of them and took the engine out of one and cut the frame using the same pattern for the motor. I wired the two together but you need to check polarity. Don't make the mistake of + to - and - to +.
Does it run right-YES Does it pull more-YES
(You should see MY Santa Fe F-7's)

Ray has the right idea. Wiring the trucks in series will allow them to balance their load and speed. I have a Rivarossi GG1 powered this way, and it works beautifully. I tried double-motoring a PT Shark years ago with the trucks wired in parallel, but the trucks fought each other because one was always faster, and eventually this wore out the pinions.
All you have to do is run a wire between the top brush retainers (the ones that aren't grounded to the truck frame), and it's done. Those PT's would benefit from half the speed, and half the voltage. The motors in my GG1 only get lukewarm no matter how long I run it.
