Here is a misprinted loco to go with the misprinted COTW. The black out line on the words does not match the words. Also it looks like the words run up hill from left to right. Only like this on one side of the loco. In the second pic you can see the black outline of the "M" on the walkway. It's also missing the RML on the nose, although that could be a decal / sticker that was removed or worn off.

Here's a nice Christmas gift to myself this year. I've been wanting a nice scale GG1, and I found this AHM / Rivarossi unit at the Greenberg show in Chantilly VA January 1st. Nice unit, has one broken pilot on one end, but otherwise nice. $60. So I guess I'll lay off Ebay for awhile. Jerry

Close enough to call it finished (just needs a rear coupler and horns). I modified my AHM C-Liner by chopping the "Jane Russell" front porch off and making a more normal pilot. Then painted and decaled it for New Haven. Somehow, it didn't grow a fifth axle in the process. I may put a decoder in it; the only thing that holds me back is that the decoder is probably worth more than the loco. :)

AMC.... As much as I despise boswer, I think they might have a replacement part for your GG1. Look under AHM/Rivarossi parts on their site. They have quite a few parts for your GG1.

Honestly it runs horrible it is the old HI-F motor with gear drive, it needs the wheels cleaned a good oiling. The paint job on the engine is amazing definitely a professional job, I could not pass it up for 30 bucks it was marked 35 but I was a kid then and it was easier to haggle then it is now :) I will get it working good one day when I actually finish a project. Those drives run great when you clean the wheels and motor. I also thought about putting a Hobbytown drive under it but that means I got to either take one from another shell or build one either way it is another of many projects.

I have the Amtrak AMH / Rivarossi GG1. Those are great running engines. What is even mor amazing is that they can take an 18r curve at speed with al of those wheels. Mine has a switch to select pantograph or track pick up, does yours? Also my lights are out. Is this supposed to have directional lighting or not. If not I am just going to fix the front light.

My friend has the later IHC version of the GG1. Really a solid engine, and its down right comical how well it goes over 18" turns.
Toptrain how do those GP20's run? They seemed like a decent engine. Always thought about maybe getting one if I ever saw one floating around a show.
So about two weeks back we were talking about what was our biggest locos. At the time this was still on the bench getting a new motor. /tyco/forum/uploaded/ChrisC/trains392.jpg
Decided it was time for it to go back into service. And not before I took a glance at Shaygetz guide on how to weather a steam engine, and came up with this! /tyco/forum/uploaded/ChrisC/DSCF1726.jpg /tyco/forum/uploaded/ChrisC/DSCF1729.jpg And the motor (painted black to hide it some). /tyco/forum/uploaded/ChrisC/DSCF1732.jpg Needs a driveshaft tweak, but its a looker and runner now There were the photos I sorta used as a guide while weathering. Its actually a 2-8-8-4 EM1 and mine is a 2-8-8-0, but Rivarossi slapped the EM1 boiler where it didn't belong so I just made due. Regardless I really enjoy how it came out. The real 7155 - http://www.northeast.railfan.net/images/bo7155s.jpg EM1 I used as weathering reference. http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/bo/bo-s659j.jpg http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/bo/bo-s659l.jpg

Sweet B&O 2-8-8-0 Is the models headlight higher than the real one's is? Or is it just me? How is the GG1 going thru 18" curves "comical"?

Headlight is the opposite. Again all Rivarossi appears to have done is remove the rear truck off their EM1 model and call it a 2-8-8-0, even though the real 2-8-8-0 looked totally different from the EM1. The GG1 is funny because we have engines half its size that struggle with curves that thing takes in stride.
Though really, the more I stare at Ken's brass loco the more I totally forget about mine lol. That thing is great looking!

I opened up my GG1 to look, Tkruger. Mine has a provision for the switch, and has the symbols cast into the bottom plastic, but there's no switch on mine, the pantographs run hot all the time on mine, I hooked up power to the power contact for them, and it runs that way, so there's no on-off for mine. All hardwired. Both light bulbs worked, and came on simultaneously in either direction, so I believe there's no directional lighting either, they're both on all the time.
I found a few issues with it when I took it apart. The windshield has a broken side, it fell out when I loosened the shell, I"ll have to reglue that. One big driving wheel also fell off, looks like the center hub is plastic, and it's broken, so it will have to be reglued as well to the backing plate and hub to stay on. Or maybe I can swap it with one off the non-powered truck, so there's no stress on the hub. Hmm. Or find one on feebay. Well, it does seem to run ok, I'd like to DCC this unit, but it seems the motor casing is part of the contact system, so it'd need a replacement can motor to isolate it, darn. I think the Tyco PT will be easier to DCC than this rascal. Oh well, I will look into it.

Picked up at the local train show today.
A Mantua 0-4-0 lettered for New Haven. I have another Mantua, 0-6-0 with same body, that has a plastic cab and plastic tender. This one here is entirely diecast and heavy, and it's had a couple of detailing bits added. It was marked "needs work." It's now running, though it needs a bit more attention--I'm not sure I like the sparks I see underneath it when it's running! The motor wasn't running when I got it (it didn't help that he had the tender wheels turned the wrong way around) so I cleaned that up and lubed it. And the valve gear was binding; managed to sort that out, mostly. He told me it's got the correct markings on the tender, but I'm fairly certain New Haven didn't use the script on these.

And a Mehano 2-6-0 lettered for New Haven. Runs okay, though a bit stuttery on a DCC track. I'll probably try to sneak a decoder into this one if I can find a space. The level of detail is pretty good on this; I don't know if it came that way or was added to after the fact.
