Goof morning - glad to see the forum is back! Both shows will be in my area soon. I have been to neither so I was wondering which would be best for a budding/beginning colector of Red Box Tyco. Thanks.

Greenberg's, definitely. That one is more like a flea market / swap meet, and usually returns to the same locations on an annual basis. There are a lot of vendors that travel to multiple shows in a given geographic region, plus a lot of local / one-off vendors who show up because it is a reliable known event with consistent returning crowds.

The WGH show is more like a traveling "trade show" and generally only hits a few disparate locations from year to year. Experience probably varies widely but when it came to Louisville a few years ago there weren't very many "used" vendors there. It was mostly new, high-quality, PR-worthy stuff.

The show coming up in Somerset (and any Edison show) for that matter is not a good place for early
Tyco red box items.

The only place I have ever found any decent red box is at the Merchants Square Mall in Allentown Pa
or the ATMA shows in Allentown Pa in the spring and fall.

Most of my stuff came from the TCA show in York Pa, but you have to be a TCA member to
attend those shows.

Joining is not a big deal though.

The Greenberg show(s) are more geared towards used equipment vendors, and the WGH is more new stuff. So if you're looking for DCC Decoders, and track, supplies, etc. then the WGH is a better bet. If you're looking for vintage rolling stock, then the Greenberg show will more likely yield better results. I've been to both, and they're both GOOD. There are vintage vendors at both, so don't discount WGH, but they other guys are correct, you'll probably find more at a Greenberg show than the bigger, flashier WGH gig. If you get the chance, go to both.
