Pierce, Yes it is looking fine. Keep us up on the progress. I did a GP30 in gray and blue CSX some time ago. There even may be one of yours running around here on the rails as a mother-slug unit

I have seen one like my as a mother slug unit minus the white roof. I added the white roof because I thought it looked good.
Love the Reading GP-30, I got a large collection of Athearn GP-30's I like all the road names they did...

Here is a UP unit Im working on restoring. Note that it is with its original blue box - the most rare box any GP30 could be found in (1968 version with white panel). By the time Athearn added this panel for contents info the GP30 was just about sold out of stock. Larry

Not sure I would have expended that effort an Athearn GP30 when there are so many better shells out there, but there's no denying your excellent paint work! I wish CSX had kept that scheme.
Have to agree with the blue rails with safety markings. If you do the yellow ends, don't forget the step edges.
Have you considered using the Bachmann GP30 shell? They're much more accurate and will fit the Athearn chassis. I'm usually not one to be too nitpicky about model railroading in general, but the Athearn GP30 is one of those rare things that just irks me as it is just too profoundly terrible, considering how unique actual GP30's are. I can see appreciate the charms and curiosity of the original Athearn releases, but using one for an otherwise excellent-looking model kind of baffles me. Unless that was the point ;) Again, not knocking your craftsmanship in any way... but just throwing out the suggestion if by chance you hadn't thought of it. Looking forward to seeing this one completed, at any rate!

I am not a rivit counter by no means, the shell is not accurate but I still like them. I sort of like to throw a curve ball to the rivit counters... You can't do that, yes I did... I have like 20 undecorated Athearn GP-30 shells and it would be a waste to not paint some of them.
I might go with the cab blue and the safety step yellow idea.
