I finally got my proof of concept together for a test run. It will be a while before I can do anything permanent... but I wanted to at least try out the piggyback loader as well as the over & under crossing.
FWIW... I never realized how challenging it was to run two trucks and a train at the same time.
Yes- that's a Starkist car you see in the photo
And as soon as my video loads- I'll post it.
EDIT- HERE'S THE VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/user/JohnnysL82?feature=mhum#p/a/u/0/vkfdDyjgVS4

Thanks Brian!
I got out my Silver Streak initially. I was thinking "wow- wait 'till Brian sees this!".
But it's apparently dead. It wouldn't even come close to coming to life.
If I could have... I would have swapped shells with my Athearn NCVA.
JMHO- but the ultimate Silver Streak layout would have been a Road & Rail set. But at almost 8'x8'... it's kinda too big. Tyco didn't stray too much beyond 4'x8'.

JohnnyKane, What's the difference in the two colors of track. Like the crossing and another piece a light gray opposed to the other.

Walt-
Paint. Anything that I've had to cut or alter in some way needed a coat of paint. The crossing was black and there were two different shades of gray plastic for the piggyback loader (the base and the ramp).
Unfortunately, as the track's plastic yellows with age, it gets harder to match properly. I've thought about masking the rails and then shooting all of it so that it is even... but that would be a real task.

Well, with concrete, it gets patched in sections with age, so nothing wrong with a patchy look, it's more realistic, really. And since your roadway is "concrete", not "asphalt", then it's appropriate to have it different colors in places.

OK JohnnyKane, That's what I figured. I was in no way down grading your layout or trying to find a flaw. I didn't know for sure as I really know nothing about the US-1 track. However, I think you should let it be the way it is rather than to paint all of the track...
Nice Video, nice pix and your work is always impressive!

The road & rails are great for a layout. Gonna use 6 of these ( 3 rows of 2) in a four lane layout... two main rails and a side track there.

| Awesome layout. Happen to have a walk through or write up of the custom US 1 stops? I really would love to either buy one or better yet build one myself. I'm an avid US-1 fan and cannot fit a train, US-1, and race track on one 4x8 sheet. I will be adding another 12-16 feet yet, although I have not figured out how big I want to go yet.

Thanks! So, what were you wanting to know? How they were made or what business they represent?

One day... the next house... I'll have an 8x8 for this and make it permanent. I don't have any room either!

| Mainly what kits were used to make them. i.e. Which US 1 accessory was used and what buildings? Which train accessory you needed to make them work in conjunction with each other. I love the setup and detail with those.

Sorry it has taken a while to get back to you.
Ok- the facilities... they all started life as TYCO terminals- either the piggyback loader or the PIE terminal.
TEXTILE MILL- TYCO- PIE terminal Bachmann- flashing water tower DPM- Laube's Linen Mill
OVERHEAD LOADER- TYCO Piggyback loader Slot track extension from Auto rack unloader, cut and fitted to piggyback ramp
GAS STATION- Exxon two-truck switch track PIE terminal office
NOT SHOWN- IHC cement factory with auto loader extension track Pike's stuff warehouse with PIE terminal base
Hope that helps!

| That's awesome! Thank you for helping me with what was used to make those awesome buildings. I'm not that inventive to setup my own accessory kits.
