Here's an AHM Alco Century 424 from the train show last week. Aside from the scuffs above the window--which are more noticeable in the picture than real life--it's like new and was in the box. Only cost me two bucks.

DOes that say The Burlington Route? I like that paint scheme. I just sorted thru my collection of Burlington rolling stock tonight, I want to do a Christmas train in alternating red and green BN cars. Too bad I don't have one of my GP20's DCC'ed yet, I've got two in the red Burlington colors.

No, it says The Milwaukee Road. Never thought about a red/green Burlington consist for Christmas...not a bad idea! I've got a nice red GP9 to start that off.

Here's my 1 dollar special: a very rare First American Real Estate Athearn F7A dummy unit - still brand new in its original box. This was a corporate giveaway promo and the label on the box lid was glued on. This is the only one Ive seen in person - there is a pic of one on the HOseeker site.

My Alco 424 SCL 1321 By LIMA ITALY- Paid $16.99 for this engine back in 1985 at my local hobby shop which has been long gone. Missing some of the railings as these become very fragile over time. This engine runs good but not a good puller- does have traction tires

Nice GI Joe, microbusss. I've got a few pieces from that set, but they're a little rough. Too bad they didn't make the train in scale with the action figures.

MB,the two drab green switchers you have both came in the Tyco GI Joe sets. One was made by Tyco, and the other was made by AHM,why the AHM loco was included in the Tyco GI Joe sets is a mystery to me. The special forces gondola was also a part of the GI Joe set.

Thanks for that info, chooch. I was going to add this pic as another example of the Tyco version, even though I've shown it on here before.
This set seems to be more common than some themed sets. Has anyone seen the MASK set?

I'll throw another Alco into the mix. I liked the look of burlington77's C424 he picked up last week and lo and behold look what was in the clearance box at the local shop.
It runs (albeit not spectacularly). I'd like to add on handrails. Is there a company that makes them that will fit this model or am I out of luck?

You might want to do a little research before putting any money into those handrails. I tried to put some on an Athearn GP9 once, and they weren't even close.

Hey Camden line, C424 Alcos sure are handsome. I'm hooked on the Tyco 430s and I have bent handrails for C430s and others from ,I think, 0.22 wire rod that I bought at the LHS. I have also used Athearn stanchions that I've measured and bent to the right height. Like most things it takes a little trial and error but you'll get it. I have never drilled the stanchion holes on the body but you could do that with a pin vise like when adding grab irons. Hypoponera has done this quite a bit and others too.

Hey Brian:
Pretty sure if you check you'll find that is a 420. A 424 would have a somewhat shorter nose.
