is there a dummy for this diesel and does it require rubber bands<
The wheels are grooved so i suspect the latter ---yes.
I have more expensive engines but this one is the most dependable as far as never derailing.
Wish it had more gradual speed it's either crawl or zoom, no inbetween

I just took a quick look at the Tyco catalogs on HOseeker. All of the F-units from the 60's had dummy versions listed, so I'm sure there are PC dummies out there somewhere
And yes, your engine should have tires.
BTW, what transformer are you using? I have Tyco engines which run like that as well and I've found that a good transformer usually helps.

I believe there is an auction on Ebay now, or was, for two Penn Central engines, and one was a dummy. Not sure if Tyco or not, but same color, style etc.

| If one had enough spare parts you could make a dummy engine. Just remove the brass wheels and install the plastic ones. Usually a "B" unit truck or GP-20 front truck works as a replacement for the motorized rear truck.

No, they're melt-riveted to the truck frame sides, so you do NOT want to remove them. Instead, you need to turn the engine upside down, and remove the gear cover, which will come off with the side pieces attached. Add your new bands, then reinstall the gear cover and side truck piece assembly. Heck, it's only 3? screws. Just don't spill the gears out! LOL.

That looks like it should do the job no problem Maybe you just have a fussy engine.
The side frames are held on by two plastic tabs that fit through holes in the metal truck. You generally have to break the tabs to get the frames off. Replace the tires and then glue the frame back on afterwards.

That PC F-Unit has a MU-2 motor, some oil,and new traction tires is all it needs. The tires are a pain to put on,but it can be done.

| If you use a small screw driver you can slide the blade between the side frame and MU chassis. It should pop out or break off the stud. The use crazy glue to glue it back on.
