any one have experience using fake fur and making it look like grass.
I've read Frary's book on how to do. Also studied this web site http://www.pacificcoastairlinerr.com/fur_grass/
went to fabric store and got swatches of various kinds of fur. Sprayed it, painted it just like the directions and installed it.
Guess what?
it looks like fake fur, no stretch of the imagination will make it look like grass

Haven't tried but I've been interested. I think the technique of laying down sheets of faux fur is always going to look a bit like fur. I was intrigued though by the technique on the site where he cuts off clumps of fur and then sticks them into daubs of glue. These tufts of grass looked pretty good on the site. I wonder how they would look on the layout. I really need to add some weeds and longer grass on my layout. Everything is far too nice right now.

One grassy alternative I was looking at in the past were some door mats. There is one type that has a really fine, stiff miniature bristle that looks amazingly like grass, but for one problem....usually the mat has some saying on it !!! I have YET to find one of these fine-bristle green doormats with no Welcome or Merry Christmas or something else on it, so it's not a solid mat. I've found some checkboard style with this bristle, too. But nothing usable. I like the mat, but there's not enough square incherage in one spot to even make a good postage stamp front yard out of it. Oh well. I keep hoping.

I'm also going to check out electro static grass but the hobby shop guy said the applicator is expensive.. Saw something about an electric fly swatter which will add an electric charge.
woodland scenics sells a roll of grass
as far as fake fur i now have a green pelt
I wonder how the hair from the tails of the squitrrels that sit in my bird feeder would work, let you know

Yeah, it looks like the electrostatic grass applicators are easy to make by hand. Let us know how that turns out. It looks like a fascinating technique.
