I remember my father telling me he was a Fireman on the "Royal Blue" both before and after WWII, prior to becoming a policeman. His recollection is a Pacific engine and tender done in the B&O dark blue with the B&O emblem on the side saying "Baltimore & Ohio Linking the 13 Great States of The Nation" , The consist was 4 passasbnger cars and an observation all done in the B&O dark "Royal Blue" the side of the passanger cars said "The Royal Blue". He remembered bring the soldiers and sailors to Philadelphia for the Army Navy games and traveling from here in Philadelphia to Chicago and back. I had a Tyco pacific engine and tender in blue sitting on my platform one year and he saw it took it off the platform and went upstairs and told everyone that was here for Xmas dinner that he was a fireman on this engine "Shovled coal" to those who didn't know that there was another type of fireman. Well I took that engine and found 5 cars of the correct consist and had them redone into the B&O Royal blue colors and correct numbered sequence and decals and ran them every Xmas, he would ask me if I was putting "The Royal Blue" up. I took him to Baltimore to the B&O museum and he stood in awe of how it looks today, he remembered that the last time he was there it was a sooty dirty smelly place and making the Roundhouse into a musem was beyond his comprehension. And now the old Camden yards building that used to be where the freight was dropped off before the Loco's went to the roundhouse is right outside the left center field wall for the Orioles new stadium. So that's my recollection of "The Royal Blue" In Malfunction Junction: When all else fails get a bigger hammer.

My father actually sat by my platform one of my first years (he had BIG RUGGED LIONEL'S) and I was having a few problems with mt teeny tiny toys he asked me after a while if I knew what I had here and I bit and said "NO WHAT DO I HAVE HERE?" cause I was really frustrated and his answer was "A Real Malfunction Junction" so that's where the name came from he was always asking me how malfunction junction was doing.
