I'll take pics Sunday and post. The highlight of the trip was I actually MADE it, no jinx this year! Previously, last year my radiator broke the morning I was leaving, year before I got sick, year before that something came up at home and I had to stay. THIS year, all went well, and it was a great day. I got there 1 hour before opening, and was able to do some vendor-shopping before the general crowds could get it. Some great Tyco deals include a Wonder Woman boxcar, $3, a Shazam boxcar, $2, a Chattanooga engine with tender, supposedly runs with new bands, $8. Bought other Tyco cars too numerous to mention tonight, oh 3 of the silver Amtrak cars, $5 each. I found plenty of other older cars like Varney, Gilbert, Marx available and bought many for $1 and 2 each.

After an hour, I gave my wallet a break, and went back to my Train Club's modular layout, dropped my nuggets of treasure, and fixed my "Silver Sausage", a consist made up of a B unit and two Tyco Observaction Amtrak cars. After some kadee work on them, they ran ok, and didn't come loose much. The B unit kept hanging up on a guy's bridge, it wasn't flat, and kept hitting a guard rail and stopping. I overcame that by speeding up the train's approach to the bridge. LOL.

A friend of my wife, now mine as well, showed up a few hours later, and he wanted to find a GG1 engine for display purposes. Took him to a vendor I scouted that morning, had about 6 made by various makers, from $50-90. He bought the green Pennsylvania one for $60. We walked about a bit more, I found a Tyco GG1 and Amtrak Trackster, didn't buy then ( but got the Trackster later for $10 ).

Ran more trains at the club modular layout for awhile, then my friend left, I ran a bit more, then headed out to hit the Restroom, and round Two of shopping. Found more stuff, Gilbert Metal flat cars, Varney cars, came back with two plastic bags full of stuff.

Ran trains most of the afternoon, then back to the restroom, round 3 now, and picked up some more goodies. Found a Marx Hustler , $5, didn't run. Body in good shape. Found a Halloween car, got that for $4. A few more bits and pieces here and there, then back to the layout for more train running. I was dead on my feet by about 4 pm, I packed up my goodies about 4:30, and walked them to the Jeep, we had to get out of the building by 5 pm. Came back, packed up my running trains, and was out the door before 5.

Missed one good deal, found not one but TWO of the Alco C415's, guy wanted $10 each, I didn't have enough cash left. My first trip to the Jeep awhile later, I scrounged the car for change, and found enough to get $11. Went back to the vendor, but he'd already packed up and left. Darn! Oh well. Next year. I spent my budget limit this day, and got lots of stuff. I'll post pics here Sunday on my haul. Pretty happy with the day, deals and train running as well. G'night, all.

No, it's a 2-hour drive for me each way. I was just doing a 1-day visit. So I won't be going back again, sorry to say.

Jerry ; You had a nice day. Can waite to see some photos of the finds. I went to one, a trainshow 20 minutes away in Carlstad NJ. Didn't make out to good. Only nice find was a pair of NH Athearn PA1s. I dont get down to Timonium anymore, To far. For me it is 3-1/2 hours and a tank of gas each way. My next show was to be Allentown PA. The first frost show, but this is unlikly now as anther thing came up cancelling it for me. Still Jerry I like to see the trains. Always like to see the trains.

UPDATE - rolling stock haul Part 1, all Tyco
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ignore the Bachmann Trackster at the bottom right. LOL. Anyway, got out my cam and did a deck table photoshoot due to the sun angle, might have been a bad idea - wind ( or cat ? ) dumped my corkboard display over, so I had to pick up the pieces, and put some cars and the Chat back together. Argh! Weighted the board after that for the shoot.

Anyway, here goes, this is all the Tyco I got yesterday. Here's the main overview -

I was pleased with everything I got, prices were VERY reasonable all over the floor. People weren't trying to get top dollar this time. I think $8 for the Chattanooga and tender was the highest I paid for any Tyco there. Speaking of -

This is a really nice loco, can't wait to see if it runs. Ok, I'll go try it, hold on <.....> Back! Works good! The header off the table didn't hurt it, and the pilot is still unbroken <whew!>. The cab came off, and the tender came apart in the fall, but otherwise, it's ok. Sweet!

Here's another Tyco engine, the Chessie and caboose, bought at different locations, I think.

Haven't tried it yet, though.

Here's the Passenger cars I got for $5 each. I used the Observation, after a Kadee transplant, on my Silver Sausage tourist train, I ran it around for awhile, and had a few problems, but fixed most of those in a few laps. All 3 in nice shape.

Here's two great deals, at different vendors. The Shazam at one, $2. The Wonderwoman, with box, $3 at the White Elephant table. Seeing them at other vendors for $20-30, HA! Got my deals! Now for Superman and Batman.

Got two dump cars, different vendors, for $2 each. Look good, will have to try to test them sometime. Track voltage?

Last of the Tyco lot, some Mantua metal cars, the flat and gondola. The Shell tanker has a metal base, but no Mantua id, so not sure if this is or is not Mantua. Any idea?

So, that's my photoshoot of the Tyco/Mantua stuff I got. Really pleased with it, especially Chatty. My first WORKING Tyco steam engine.

Next photoshoot is of all the other makes : Bachmann, Life Like, Varney, Gilbert, Marx, unknowns. Stay tuned!

Jerry

UPDATE 2 - all non-Tyco (exception ) engines and cars.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a photoshoot of all the OTHER pieces I acquired Saturday. Found another Tyco in the boxlot, so it's in with these guys. Here goes!

Overview of the entire lot, including one Tyco boxcar. Can you spot it? <laughing "merrily">

Here's party central. No names on them, anyone know whose make they are?

Adding to my growing Varney collection, more boxcars.

Here's a Cox flat for a trailer, with incorrect trailer, what I got with it. The matching trailer was missing, whatever that was. First trailer flat I found of Cox variety.

Possible 3-rail engine? Made in Japan. Maybe for 3-rail Marklin? Can anyone ID this? Not sure if to try DC or AC on the motor. Will wait for any ideas, or more research. Only $5, so I decided to buy it.

Amtrak caboose and double-door boxcar, makers unknown.

Track cleaner and caboose. No markings on either. I've started a track cleaner collection, no matter how cheesy, I'm buying examples of all types. This one the plastic tank actually parts into 2 pieces, how crappy is that? Easy to leak.

Got the Helium car for $2, they sell for way more on Ebay. This is a Wabash, I didn't have that one yet, have the Navy version. The Halloween car was cool, never seen one, I ran that one around the club modular layout, the public liked it. $8

Now THESE were one of my best scores. I've been wanting to do a Ghost Train, and needed a sort of see-thru shell for adding green LEDs or lights. I already had TMI Boxcars and caboose in this translucent white. Now I found not one, but TWO sets of TMI A-B diesels! Score! Only $2 each, and the guy gave me one free, so $6 for 4 pieces. I was.

These were some fun finds. Brass and metal cars. The Brass tender, only $3 at the WHite Elephant table. No idea what make or what engine it goes to. $1 for the cast metal tender. I THINK the brown caboose, with metal bottom, might be a Mantua, but can't find any markings on it. shell has four screws, under the steps, to hold it on. I think I remember someone saying those are Mantua's.

Bought the CN not for the name, but because it's a Playart ( another line I"m collecting ). Nice shape! The Model Power I wanted simply for my NASCAR themed consist I'm building. Only new item I bought at the entire show.

Gilbert flats, one at $10, one at $4. 50' I think. I don't have many Gilbert cars, so these are a few new ones to add.

A couple of heavy duty braced flats by Bachmann. Just more flats for loads I want.

One of my last deals of the day, my next to last floor walk, spotted this old Marx Hustler. Got it for $5, wire is broken, the metal motor frame cowl is rubbing the gear, so need to fix that, barely turning over. But it does run somewhat. NASTY inside, metal filings, junk, needs a THOROUGH cleaning and lubing. Gondola needs some wheels, otherwise decent.

Lastly ( or, first, since I got this box off the White Elephant table before the show even opened ), a boxlot of HO and misc. stuff. One reason I bought it , there was a blow-up Goodyear Blimp inside, those run $10-15 new. This one still in the package. Whole boxlot , $6. also a '40's Ford 1/32 ? scale convertible, it'll go on Ebay, or make offer. I'm not a Ford fan. Had a couple Varney trucks inside, some ladders for cabooses, other misc. hardware. 2 or 3 buildings and/or pieces. A decent deal.

So, this finishes my inventory of Timonium 2010 finds. All in all a great day, got to run trains AND shop. And the jinx was finally broken, I thought I'd never get back to Timonium with the way things have happened to me the last few years. Now to sort, pack, and store the pieces until I can get to them again. Hope you enjoyed the show, and can help identify some of the pieces I bought. Thanks for watchin' !

P.S. STILL sorry I missed those dang Alco C 415's !

Nice haul Jerry, I was visiting family in Delaware and was able to spend a few hours at the Timonium show Saturday, it was a very tight schedule. Didn't get as much as you did but still got a few things. I really miss that show, since moving to Texas 5 years ago. It's always a good excuse to visit family and hit the train show !

At least you may get the long distance award for attendance! Looks like you found something worthwhile anyway. Never seen those Smoke-N-Sound kits. Still lots to learn about Tyco.

Eaglerock, you are lucky to have found one of those smoke in tender kits. What did you pay for it? [Edit: Just enlarged the photo and saw the $12 sticker -- you stole it!] Larry at HO Seeker has been looking for info on those (he didn't even know they existed until I pointed out an auction to him a few years back), so if you can scan the instructions and take some pictures of the kit, it would be much appreciated.

I only paid $10 for it. I'll scan the instructions and take a few pics for Larry. It's a interesting item.
