I purchased a Orange (may have ben red once upon a time) Broadway trolly. It has a shell identical to the one that this site used to have in the upper left corner of the header. I was told it was an AMH. Today I finally had time to open it up and get it running. I found it had the same motor ad gearing as the old Mantua disels locos did in their power trucks.
Questions are this as there is no brand anywhere on it:
1. Is the really an AMH.
2. Is this a Tyco or Mantua (I think from what I have seen this is more likely.
3. Did this ever have a light, mine doe not, might add one when I have time to get back to it.
4. Were these all this loud? I lubed everything.
5. Did these have any known issues with corrosion on the wheels, these were black prior to cleaning. Now they are shiny brass. (prior to cleaning there was no electrical pickup)

Most likely, it is a Tyco from the 70s-80s. Didn't come with a light.

1) I believe AHM did offer trolleys, but theirs were a little bit different. If it looks like the one in the header on this site, then it is a Tyco

2) Tyco and Mantua have a tortured intertwined relationship that takes too long to explain. The quickest answer is the trolley was originally developed and sold as a Tyco during the 50's... when Tyco used Mantua parts and co-branding extensively. The Mantua name was phased out starting in the early 60's, but even into the late 60's, cars that were only developed and sold as "Tyco" (such as the 50' flat car and its variants) often had "Mantua" stamped on them. The family interest that owned Mantua/Tyco sold the company & Tyco brand in the early 70's, and the Mantua name was retired. The trolley was sold throughout the 70's. In the late 70's the same family interest resurrected the Mantua name, once again using Tyco parts (or supplying them to Tyco, it's kind of fuzzy) while developing their own new products and buying others. This "New Mantua" did not ever offer the trolley under their brand, IIRC.

3) None of mine ever seemed to have a light.

4) MU-2's are a mixed bag. Some are silent, others are loud. The riveted assemblies make servicing difficult, but worn-out ones do tend to get noisy. Use white grease on the axle gears. Use thin LaBelle oil on the armature shaft and bearings. Aside from that, short of a tear-down there's little else you can do. I'd say the armature lube is your best bet.

5) No real "issues" other than the standard nature of brass. All brass will tarnish over time, depending on use and maintenance.
