Good thing I got mine at an auction for $24, then. Been 6+ years ago, at least. Can't say I've looked at them at the local shows, I'll do so on Saturday, just to see what they're selling for around Virginia.

Well, I found THREE of them at the show yesterday, two Western and Atlantics, and one other General, from $60-85, so under the 100 dollar mark. Didn't buy any of them, though.

Here is a Tyco 4-6-0 I got at a train show last sunday. I haven't seen it listed anywhere. It is a B&O. Basicly black with a red cab. A wood burning Rogers. I have replaced the missing handrails so a new photo will replace this one soon. frank

Ken I have the blue one. This black one has a factory painted tender. Was this tender out of the factory following a 4-6-0, 4-8-0, 2-6-0, or 2-6-6-2. all used this tender. Even a standard 0-4-0 switcher used this tender. It was called the Pony. frank

* Decorating old time locomotives. Little six Ken, asked me to look up some stuff. It is good info for anyone redoing, painting and lettering old time locos.
* For decorating old time 4-4-0s look at Microscale. 87-1170. They are made for civil war era locomotives of the US military Railroad. This will make a highly decorated old timer. All you need do is instead of USMRR place ATSF or you road name on the tender.
* For a less decorated loco look to 87-1166. It is for PRR steam locos. All necessary striping for tenders to make a double striped pin striping of the tender. Again place your ATSF or whatever lettering in center.
* Striping and ornaments of another type are available in 87-1168. also made by Microscale is a 1860 Western Atlantic set for old time locos.
* Also if you can find them Champ had decal sets for the Union pacific Jupiter # 60, and the Central Pacific # 119. The locos photoed at the joining of the first transcontinental railroad

Ken ; Yours is a stock Pennsy. Is my tender from another loco like the Meaddowood lumber 4-6-0. That is the question. Was there a Black B&O 4-8-0, 2-6-6-2, or 0-4-0 Pony. If so that is where the tender could have come from. frank

Well Buss. Copy and print the photo. shrink it to a workable size for a photo of a large box car. Cut out the W&A box car and place it on top of the large photo and scan it. * Either that or get one like mine and place it next to a large box car and take a photo. frank

It seems to be... Self Centered!
Jumping in, I've noticed that the 4-8-0's have two different places for the blind driver... Some have the last driver, some have the third driver. What's the evolving reason, or are they errors?
John

* That look's like a later General that was released by Mantua just before it became Mantua Classics. They came in boxes as brass locomotives did. Big ones ! Bachmann and Braodway limited I guess liked the packaging and use it on there better locomotives. Nobody packaged there locomotives like that untill Mantua did, except for brass models. * I guess the better packaging does protecting the locomotive better. As seen it doesn't mean there is a good engine in the box. You still have to buy one and see for yourself. * John it looks like you took flash photos of the model. The lettering is washed out by the flash. Any chance of a time laps photo without flash. frank

Well I guess Ill add to this thread, here is my Tyco old tymer, a 4-8-0 that I picked up for about $25 at a local train store, ues it was second hand used but I didn't care, I like the little guy and plan to use it as part of my rail road for either a nostalgic train or a light duty hauler/MOW train...
Ill update with a better pic shortly when I am finished running in another train at the moment!

Frank, Nope I bought that locomotive BRAND NEW in a TYCO box! Was a year or so, before TYCO was gone out of the train business! I had the box, but wound up loosing it over the years! I got that back in I believe 1982/83.....
ALTHO, Mantua did make one just like it in the early to mid 1990's.....
EDIT:
Ohhh and I forgot to mention it had NO working headlight, I believe the Mantua's had working headlights!

I forgot I had the following:
I'm sorry for the poor pictures! These were taken about 10-11 years ago!
But its a 4-6-0, TYCO that I got as a gift, from my old hobby shop partner Gary Baer, for "Little Town Toys & Trains" that was in my home town in Pennsylvania.....it was a TYCO modsel he had 30 years before handing it to me as a 13 or 14th birthday gift! When I got it, it wasn't painted into anything but looks GREAT as the #1366 for the B&O from the B&O Power book....

Hey John ! Great ten wheeler ! Old Russian Iron boiler sheeting. Plain black everything else. With bright gold lettering, makes a good looking locomotive. frank
edit : text and photo For you John a photo of a IHC B&O 4-4-0 from 2004 that I had. Gone now. frank

Frank, I got that SAME locomotive, only with Rivarossi on it! Thats the B&O's 4-4-0 "William Mason"
See below:
I have re-done the color of the drivers to match the remaining "Maroon" as I just could not handle that miss matched paint (The driver centers are casted in color, and not painted like the rest of the locomotive is!)
Plus, I added the lost dome, you see missing as well.....On yours Frank, was the domes plastic or brass? Mine are brass, thats been painted! The one you see is factory added the one missing I found in my parts bins to add to the locomotive but had to paint it to match the other one but it all looks GREAT now!

* Back to Tyco !
I started with some Tyco old time cars here is some more. A Central pcific Box Car. The old one with metal trucks and a factory number.
*Moving along a companion car for the box car. A Central Pacific Horse Car. Also a older one which can be told by its company number. *Here is what may be a first for tyco- Mantua. A additional number " X 62 " . I think this is the first time Tyco has dated a model train car .
Continueing. Keeping to the CP mode. A CP Water Car. Again the older one with metal trucks and a number. Even the water car name.
Rolling along. A CP low side gondola car. Again a old numbered car.
