Another junk box unit which runs, it probably needs the plastic pieces between teh wheels, one is off, might be cracked. Anyway, I also need to find a tender for this unit. Anyone run these, and how long do they last? Seems smooth enough, even with the bent rods, the motor is smooth as glass.

I hope to get ol' Smoky running again, seems like an easy fix, the rods should bend back ok.

Definitely a parts loco, unless you can locate the cylinders. The rear drivers will need to be quartered and glued to the axle with CA, of course. If it's the newer version with the FK-130 can motor, they do run well. I've used them in many repowering projects.

Yes, I do have both of the cylinders, I just didn't put them in the picture. They will need to be reglued in place. Not sure if they had nubs which broke off, or were glued on flush. Can't tell by looking at them myself. Opinion?

It looks like the pin was left behind in the casting. Those cylinders generally don't come off without leaving the pin behind, but gluing them back on isn't a problem without the pins... I've done it a few times. Post your results when you get it back together.

Thanks, I'll look into those. The Tender is $25?! Holy smokin' hippies, Batman! I think I'll just look into the drive assembly for now. Whew!

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who broke the cylinders trying to disassemble this damn thing. I have the ATSF model. It's a great running little loco, but a PITA to lube. I think next time, I'll just order the cylinders before I clean & lube it and assume that they're going to break.

I wonder if drilling out the mounting holes a little larger and holding the cylinders on with hot glue would do the trick. I might have to try that out.

It would be cheaper to send it into Bachmann for a $15 replacement under their warranty. I wonder if they'd accept it without a tender?

I've sent engines to them in Priority Mail boxes. That's a good idea, I wonder if they would fix it?
