Hi, i am new to this site, but i just inherited a mint condition Tyco twin diesel super action freight set no 7657, totally complete, and it was only ever opened once. In fact most of the little boxes inside are still factory sealed. I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea on the value of this set. I have tried researching the net, and it seems to be hard to find out much about these sets. After hours of googling, i have found this forum, and you guys are my hope. If you have any info, or would be able to educate me on this further, i would greatly appricate your help. Thank you for your time and thoughts, Brian.

Tyco isn't Lionel, first off, so if you're hoping to have "struck it rich", sorry. LOL. Anyway, a mint set of Tyco can sell for $75-200, depending on type, steam, diesel, rarity, etc. Unless it's a super-rare set, and I'm not an expert on sets, your top price would probably be $200 or less. Just a ballpark figure. Tyco was a toy, and not always a well-made one at that, so while there is some collector interest, it's not like the old sturdy Lionel or American Flyers of the '50's and '60's. Lionel sometimes did limited runs of special sets, which brings big bucks. Tyco never did, they were more mass-market, so any special set will be worth something, but they're not as common. You didn't list what the road name was of the engine and cars, so without that info, you're just going to get a generic ballpark guess. Some are more common than others. Again, you won't get rich off selling your Tyco set, so if that's what you were hoping for, I'm sorry you'll be disappointed most likely. Post some more info on the set ( Is it UP ( Union Pacific ), Burlington, etc. and maybe we can do more. Pictures are also nice.

That's the best bit of information I've read on here lately. We should say that upfront to everyone who's looking for a value.

I couldn't find that specific set listed, but a few similar ones. I think Jerry's advice on value is pretty good, although maybe a little optimistic at the high end. It depends on what setting you plan to sell it in. Ebay will probably bring the most. They don't bring much at garage sales or auctions. A picture will help us give more specific ideas.

Keep in mind that aside from the large steam engines and the odd piece or two, Tyco trains have no collector value. They're considered toys (or worse) in the train collector's world. In fact, I was at a train show a couple weeks ago and overheard a conversation between a dealer and a customer where the dealer said "Them Tycos were real pieces of &^%* weren't they." Kinda sums of the collector interest right there.

Good luck with your set. Hope you become a recurring member. Seems like we've had several new members lately who get their price quote and disappear.

Thank you guys, i appriciate your input, and your honesty. I wasnt on the whole "i hope im rich" tip, but rather i was just trying to get a feel for the set i have. ^This set was given to me by my grandfather when i was just a wee lil' tot, (aka too young to play with it), and its been put away ever since then. Just recently i was packing up some stuff in the house, (preparing to move), and came across the set. I had always wanted to play with it for as LONG as I can remember. My parents however would never let me play with it. I see why now, but it wasnt cool back then. Now that i am older an such, i can appriciate what they did for me, as it is in prime condition. With that being the case, i dont want mess with it, and thus degrade its value, since it has been taken care of for all these years.

It is TWIN DIESEL SUPER ACTION FREIGHT NO 7657. Right now i cant find the software for my digi cam, and so can not upload a pic, however i will type out the contents of the set to you guys.

Trains and cars
1. Sante Fe Locomotive with light up headlight
2. Second Engine car
3. Flatbed Car with 3 bulldozers on top
4. 2nd Flatbed car w/ Two Sante Fe Trailers on top (piggyback)
5. 3rd Flatbed Car w/ 3 pipe sections on top
6. Silver Virginian Hopper car
7. Red "El Capitan" Box car
8. Coal car
9. Red Santa Fe Caboose

Also includes buildings
1. Piggyback set & truck terminal
2 Remote control operating ore dump set
3. Remote Control freight depot
4. Operating Crossing gate
Also includes Signs, lamps, and truck.
Also includes Electric power pack and manual switch.

I hope that maybe this will help give you guys a better feel for what i have come upon. I am sorry i can put up a pic, maybe soon tho. And hey guys, do not worry, i have been a huge train nut my entire life, playing with my lego electric train set growing up, and building sets with my buddy and his pops, its good times. I guess you can call me a "newbie" because ive never been hardcore into trains, and collecting them, just rather enjoying painting a car, or watching a train cruise the track youve laid for it. But either way, i must stop and say THANK YOU, to those of you who have responded to me, and thanks for your words and ideas.
I plan to keep visiting this page, and forum on a regular basis, so do not fear, i am not just going to up and disappear on you guys.
Thanks ALL
-Brian

Most of the value is in it's personal value to you, Brian. I'm glad to see you appreciate the gift, even if you weren't allowed to play with it for years to prevent it's destruction by too-young hands. LOL. Wise parents!

We always welcome newbies, Brian. Especially those that appreciate trains. If you don't mind my asking, how old are you? You seem quite "articulate(d)" (train joke here ), yet I still seem to sense you're young. Just curious. I got my first train set, a Lionel, in 1963 when I was 3 years old, and my Dad let me play with it, supervised. I never played "crash the train", I just liked watching it go 'round, too. I still have my original set, plus my HO stuff I started getting into in my teens. Plus all my years of accumulation, mostly in the last 5 years.

Anyway, glad to hear you want to take care of your set, and find out more about it and Tyco in general. While Tyco is not of a big collector interest to most, being a mass-market toy at the time, there's plenty of us still interested in them to buy more and keep them running. Plenty of tips on this forum for tuning up a long-sitting/stored engine, making them run better, etc. Glad you're with us,and hope to see more posts ( and pictures ) soon.
