Today, after getting Emissions on my Jeep, then the dreaded DMV run to renew my tags ( actually, the DMV was near deserted, I was done in 15 minutes ), I visited my train club member who has drawers and drawers full of Tyco, Bachmann, Life Like, varney, Rivarossi, etc. junkers and clunkers. I concentrated on basically 3, Tyco, Bachmann, and Rivarossi today, and got some Varney and misc. others to boot. Basically all engines and parts, from steam to diesel. Paid $100 for it all, but considering there must be 50-60 engines and parts of engines, I didn't think it was a bad deal. He was planning on selling them at the Timonium show, so I figured if I wanted any of the parts to fix mine, plus future rebuilds, I better scoot and show some loot. I'll post pics on Saturday, I'm feeling ill, and need to get to bed for some rest. While I had the day off, though, I needed to get the Jeep done and buy those parts. :) Some of the nuggets include a Tyco engine with smoke unit, actually two in pieces. Might find the whole thing in there if I'm lucky. My buddy cares nothing for Tyco. Got a couple of 0-4-0 "Joe" steam engines by Rivarossi, B&O, one runs, the other is missing the drivetrain but has the shell and motor. Plenty of metal and plastic in this lot, I can't wait to sort thru it. Got a southern GP bloody nose Southern diesel, an Illinois RS0 unit, plus many others without shells. Several Varney cast steam engine bodies, no running gear, unfinished, no rot. Since most of my current collection of HO is diesel, this is a HUGE increase in my steam collection, as I've probably got 10 total steam engines, until today. Just jumped about 4-fold. :) Anyway, should be fun sorting thru tomorrow while the wife's away at her craft stall selling stuff. Hopefully I'll feel better soon, too. Got to, Timonium , MD train show is next weekend!

UPDATE - pics of entire junkbox purchases , Rivarossi, Bachmann, Atlas, Tyco, Athearn, Varney, misc.
Ok, couldn't sleep late this morning, so after the wife left, I went out to the Jeep and got the 3 containers of engines and parts. Proceeded to sort and search thru them all morning. Some neat stuff, like cast metal Varney steam engine Casey Jones, I have the shell, the front cylinders, and the base. No motor or wheels or detail parts. I can probably get 5-10 engines going out of this lot already, I think. Sorted out the engines into one of those Wal-mart clear diecast car carriers, they work perfect for sorting out the engines and trucks.
Anyway, on with the show....

This first lot was huge, mostly Atlas and Bachmann, with some others thrown in. Loads of trucks, parts, etc.

Loads of varney stuff in this lot, I've been on a Varney craze lately, found one diesel engine chassis with one truck here, I've got some parts to fix another already I bought thru Ebay. The two Tyco smoking steam engines are in this lot, lower right. Never had one of those, I've got a base and two hulls, but they don't seem to line up with the chassis, so not sure if it'll work, or if it's for a 2-6-0, and not a 8. Will have to research that.

Here we have I think mostly Rivarossi steam engines, I like the little 0-4-0's, there's 3 of them, can probably get one complete. Not sure how easy the others will be to either repair or find parts for. The lone AHM Diesel is the Illinois Central, it does turn over, I think my buddy tested it before I left his shop. I don't have a diesel that old, so I think that's a keeper. Anyway, for $100 I got quite a bit, and I'm sure I'll have fun with it. I haven't touched his Athearn drawer yet, maybe after the Timonium show I'll see what he has left. He's still got a box of Tyco stuff to take to sell as well. I'll be up there, so I'll check to see what he has I may want next weekend. But for now, I have enough to keep me busy for months. :)
