That's minty cool, NYC! Never knew Bachmann did so many billboard cars. I hope they get a fresh production run sometime.
My COTW is an Accurail kit from my brother for my birthday with the promise of building it himself. Finished today, final day of holidays, breathe deep enough and you can smell the glue.
I think he did an ace job, better than I could for sure although he needed to raid my parts cabinet because, to quote "It came with crumby wheels and crumbier couplings." Sheesh, Tyco would be wasted on kids today!

when babies are found in "Three's"
The first one is a Mantua steel-side kit... and it is all steel, rivet-side, not wood How rare is this?!? Just short of mint... the trucks show oxidization.
The second is TYCO with a good shine all around.
The third is Model Power/LifeLike, still shiny.
The beauty is that all three were obtained at the same place in one visit to a favourite store.
All at once... triplets? OH BABY to the max!
John p.s. one of these days I will line up my Athearn and Train Minature versions and call them Quins!

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Hi John. The Mantua Metal side with plastic Roof and ends were made in the 1950's. They were like a transition series. From the 1940's Metal with cardboard sides to all plastic construction, late 1950's. The car is a nice find.. Carl

As stated in Ken's link, it's just a variation. It's not as common as the blue roof one, but I don't think it's rare (if I have one, it probably isn't )

I'm just about to finish a 50's Mantua reefer. It's all-metal, using about 3 different types! Brass for the roof and sides, cast metal ends, and thin steel plate for the floor. It has paper sides lettered for Land-O-Lakes butter. It's mostly screw construction, but as some screws were missing, I'm using some ACC glue. I'll post pics when finished.

Yup, that's the TrainMinature version, the trapezoid door stirrup and plastic-sprung trucks.
Like I said, eventually I will get all my Baby's together and have a family portrait done of the generation/versions... Roundhouse/MDC also has a 36' kit version in the same colours.
Uh, I don't have the Chug Chug hy-cube version, either.
Thanks for all yer inputs!
John

It's not rare but it is hard to find. If you collect Mantua-Tyco it's one you want, and will find, eventually...
