Hi all,

It's that idiot jerk also known as "GIC" here; some of you may recognize this "new" pseudonym. But, that's not the point.

I'd like to set aside any and all mutual angst for a moment, and ask that you please set aside a few moments or three to send a prayer (or a kind thought) to the Bennett Family of Chalfont, PA.

Our former member "LoopNHook" passed away this morning. Peacefully in his sleep, after a long hard battle he fought courageously.

George Bennett shared a wealth of information here, and was always willing to dig for more when he was able. Between him and VintageHO there was little mysterious about the gilded age of HO and Tyco. A lot of what I unearthed and shared back in the day was directly because of him as well. I am forever indebted to him.

Not only that, but he was simply a good man. I know he made me a better person (yeah go ahead and snicker but it's true) and he helped a lot of folks here. He thought highly of many of you. His failing health and other stupidities in the past year prevented him from saying this himself.

So, that's all I have to say. I wanted to inform everyone myself in his honor this time, instead of asking BriansTyco to do it for me. Hopefully the current admins can respect that. Best wishes to all of you, and please keep George's family in your thoughts during this time.

The photo below is of a steam loco that I kitbashed - my very first one - in a mad rush to get it done before he left. He got in on Labor Day weekend - just in time.

Regards,

Tony L.

Hi GIC,

I'm very sorry to hear this. I will keep his family in my prayers.

Very nice work on the steamer. I bet he really loved it.

On a side note. I think this kind of shows how short life really is, and all the time spent fighting is time you NEVER get back. We just need to get our Tyco family together and let the past be the past. Once a Tyco family member passes or leaves the group, it is too late to make amends and in the end, I have to wonder if it was really worth fighting over. It just hurts to watch our Tyco family fall apart.

Thanks for letting us know, Tony. I was just trying to think of an email message to send him, as his wife had requested any news of current projects and the like that he would love to hear, but didn't have much news to share. He wanted me to come see him, but we were never able to make it happen. I knew they had stopped all chemo treatments and other measures, but it's still a shock.

I'll be thinking of Pat and the rest of his family, and keeping them in my prayers. Great recreation of #40, Tony. We both shared a love of the NH&I. My first contact with him was a few years back when he gave me a D1 Penn Line Midget out of the blue. It needed work, but it's up and running now. He was a very generous man.

Green signals and full steam ahead, Loopy.

George and I never met in person. But, though the forum we have shared many a post, with our knowledge of older Trains and desire to share this with others. It is sad to hear about his passing. I will miss him. My condolences to the Bennett Family.
Thanks Tony for letting us know. Glad you were able to get The New Hope and Ivy Land Engine to him in time. You would not think that the engine was your 1st Kitbash. You did a great Job. Carl

I hate to hear that, but as they say "at least he isn't suffering anymore." I will miss his posts on here as he seemed a very intelligent man, & eager to help. that is what sets this board apart from all others I belong to, people like George. George will be missed.

Tony, on a side note, I miss reading your thread & posts as well. I don't know what happened to make you leave, but as far as I'm concerned your always welcome here.

I haven't been here long enough to say I knew George (Loopy as I've heard him called)... but I can say this...

In as much as I know... a man's mark is not measured by what accomplishments he leaves- but rather it is measured by the legacy he leaves behind.

I'd say based upon the comments of those who knew him that he leaves a legacy of kindness, generosity, knowledge, and most of all, perhaps inspiration- in not only how he treated others but also in how he fought against cancer.

That says a lot about him. Again- I can't say I remember any posts with him... but I can say I'd sure have liked to have been able to.

So true Mike!

As I look at my family (brothers/sisters) - and even my own kids- and how much they've grown and changed over the years, I certainly see the wisdom of your observations as I have lived them.

I'm definitely sorry to hear this. As a relatively new member, I never knew the man well, but I certainly recognize his name and wisdom from the posts I've read. Too many good guys are going away, and it seems like too few are taking their place.

Guys:

Please restrict comments to/about The passing of Loopy.

This is not the place to campaign on Tony's behalf.

I'm going to ask you to PM or email Todd (NYC) about that.

That's his decison.

(Saturday 18:55pm)Please actually wait a few days. I spoke to Todd briefly today (PM) and he has something very serious on his plate.

Thank you.

Hi GIC spiderj76, missed the fracas and wondered where you went! Although I wish you were back under happier circumstances.

I'm so glad your good friend got that superb looking loco in time, for it's the smaller moments - the simple kindnesses we cherish most of all. And now because of him, whenever a model train puritan sneers at my billboard reefers, I'll just smile and remember Loopy as the only expert worth listening to.

Rest In Peace, LoopnHook.

This is very, very sad news to me.
George and I exchanged PMs over the past couple of years, talking about Tyco stuff.
Once I'd posted a picture of an empty GI Joe set,a week or so later I received a package at home.
Inside were the trains to fill that empty box.
He had saved my home address from when he sent me some parts, earlier that year.
I'm really going to miss George, and remeber the great conversations we had.
My heartfelt condolences to his family, and friends.

Just saw this. I need to send my thoughts to Pat. I owe George a great deal of gratitude. He will be missed.
