Thought I'd best introduce myself before I start inundating y'all with questions. I'm Tony, new to the electric train hobby, bought my first TYCO train yesterday at a garage sale. My other hobbies are ham radio (my call sign is KD5AFE), genealogy, collecting/using old shaving equipment-straight razors, double edge razors, shaving mugs and brushes.

Welcome aboard - This is a laid back relaxed site with members who are more than willing to help you unlike other sites that may. snicker at Tyco or have the snob attitude. This site is the roots of what the hobby is today. Take some time to browse through the site topics as some of your questions may be already posted - if not someone will help regardless

| thanks guys, from what I can discern I bought a Santa Fe brown box freight set. It has the car hauler, caboose, 2 box cars, a flat car with 3 dozers, and 2 engines. It also came with the bridge girder set, track and power supply. I think I got a good deal on it. I paid 40 for it.

Welcome aboard, Tony! I'm sure you'll enjoy the camaraderie here. Ham radio, eh? Maybe I can ask you a few questions about some old two-way radio gear, whether to save or toss? Like an old Midland 7-channel two-way, or a Phoenix S two-way radio? I think I may have saved some of my Dad's old straight-razor shaving stuff, when it was getting sorted out for toss or save. I also have a neat German wind-up rotary razor, like the Apollo Astronauts took into orbit. Who's gonna inundate WHO with questions? LOL.

Thanks all for the warm welcome!
Jerry, there are guys who collect old radio gear, hams refer to them "boat anchors" because they are so big and heavy. If it's CB there may be guys who collect those also, but I'm not as familiar with the old cb stuff. The straight razor's can fetch some decent prices, depending upon who made them. Double Duck, Wade & Butcher, Joseph Rodgers & Sons are just three of the most sought after. As with model trains, condition also affects the prices. That wind-up razor sounds cool. I think I saw one once. I live in an Amish community and one an elderly Amish guy was set up at the flea market and he had one of those, which makes sense as they have no electricity.
If I can be of any help, I'm more than happy to answer any questions. If I'm not sure of an answer, I bet I can come up with one in a day or two. Tony
