This working on the rail road is hard work and long hours. Right now looks unorganized as i jump from one task to another, but there is a method to my chaos

Lot's of doodling and a few false starts to avoid reverse loops as i don't want to mess with double throw switches.. Can't afford DCC at this time and if i could fitting all my engines with chips assuming there is room, takes a lot of time. Maybe later as a Xmas request

Tried the layout soft ware, not user friendly and I've gone through 2 Macs and 3 P Cs in my life time and am cad/cam literate so feel i can critique.

Foam is very forgiving and allows roughing in grades, curves, etc to try out before nailing down.

I will have 4 open areas-farm with stream, lake and water fall, switch yard and town. Trying to give a western Rocky Mt feeling.

Mentioned lake and wife said how are you going to keep the water in? I said you do it with mirrors, glass, plexiglass etc.

as she went back up stairs a light bulb went off in my head. Why not real water?. Rubberized paint, small fish tank pump, why not?.

anyway just wanted to share

And when you get really proficient, you can build mul;ti-level helixes like this -

I bought this one from a club member who moved west some years ago, just lost my storage on it, will probably have to cut it up, too large for anything I have going right now. I'll save the 6 tortoises, switches, track, and anything else I can. These are nice layout additions , but too large for me right now. Yours is looking good, keep at it!

It looks like your making some good progress. Real water would be cool. I've heard using real water can be messy, cause moisture problems, etc..., but your lake wouldn't be to big. It couldn't hurt to try it.

well i learned one thing tonight.

you can't go immediately from a cross over into an incline. I tested with a car coming down and the disconnect pin that hangs down from the horn hook catches in the cross rail. Even going in flat on a cross over some of the pins catch, but not on Tyco cars. One solution would be to convert to knuckle but lots of work.

will trimthe problem cars just enough to clear but still give decouple capabilities
