I just won on EBay a Tyco GG1 Amtrak loco and three cars. Are these a set or were they purchased separately (I am referring to the Amtrak cars only)? If they are a set are all of the Amtrak cars in the set there? ![]()

Yes, the Amtrak cars come in a set with a matching engine. I don't know if they ever came with the engine in your photo. I believe the passenger set come with only 3 cars. I seem to remember one set with more than 3 cars though... Someone will post with more knowledge about them than I...

I'm pretty sure I've seen boxed sets on ebay that have the GG1 with the blue striped cars.

I saw one set today with the GG1 at the train show, guy wanted $60 for it all, looks exactly like what is pictured in the first picture with 3 cars. So I'd say you could get it with either style engine. Else why would they make a GG1 in Amtrak colors?

If it was going for $60 at a show I guess $30 shipped was not to bad then. Per the seller it just needs two couplers.

The set from Tyco that had the GG1 was called the Broadway Limited, the passenger cars had the same red and blue stripes as the GG1 loco. It's in the 1977 catalog.

That's not a bad deal at all! Most of the Tyco passenger cars I've seen at shows, hobby shops, etc, have been priced from $8-$12 each, and you got the engine on top of all that.
