I recently inherited my grandfathers collection of toy trains. About thirty of them are in boxes, the rest are loose along with a few hundred feet of track, cattle, sheep, etc.... any information would be greatly appreciated, as i cannot find information on most of them online. Thank You!

| hi j.train welcome,i have had a look at what you have shown, its a nice lot regards a train layout, which i am sure would please your grandad to see it being used by his family, most of the items come up quite often on ebay, and as steve said thats the best place to get a fair idea of value, the boxed items may fetch a little more than the unboxed ones,my advice for what its worth is let the kids have fun with it ken

I completely agree with the idea of checking ebay. That's a good idea of what these things actually sell for. I know from experience (just yesterday, actually) that you may walk into an "antique" store and see things like this marked high, but they NEVER sell. They sit and collect dust. In reality, you've got a nice collection of fun trains that would be great to set up and run for kids, grandkids, friends, or any other rail fan.
If you are looking to sell to make money, I'd recommend selling a piece or two or three at a time. Just don't expect much more than$3- $5 for the loose items, slightly more for the boxed ones, and it may take a loooong time to sell everything. Some of that stuff is VERY common. There are some interesting pieces that might be rarer, someone else might point those out from the pics.
As a lot, I don't think this would go for much more than $50, maybe more on a good day, depending on what else you have and some condition issues. Track is usually cheap, especially older track. Switches are worth a little more, depending on condition. Speaking as someone who buys lots like this at garage sales and auctions, I think that's about the best you'll do if you sell it as a whole.

First of all, good luck Justin. We'll be thinking of you.
I don't know if the original poster is still on here, but from what I've seen lately I think he could get quite a bit more for this lot than I originally thought. Prices are rising.
