Presenting the Silver Sausage Express
I posted about this in the Tyco GG1 post, so I am posting to here due to the fact that it's not a GG1, and it's more of a customized train consist. Basically I'll take a B unit with decoder in it, the two Observation cars will be retro-fitted with controls at each end, and the passenger consist can be used for light rail use, tourist trips, etc. I like it because it's streamlined at each end, hence the Silver Sausage moniker. Without further ado :

I was bidding ( and won ) a new Bachmann B unit with DCC Onboard, but now the Seller is saying he, uh , "oversold" them ( I was bidding on the last Burlington he supposedly had, true ), so after I won last night and paid, I got a message this morning that he can't deliver. Argh! I want the Burlington because it's silver, and has a red stripe across the portals, same height as the two Tyco cars. He said pick any other similar unit, but he's only got 4 B units left, 2 are Erie, and 2 are NYC, neither of which I really wanted (and all have bids on them). So, what do I do? He said he'd refund my money, BUT I got it for $23, that's 21 cheaper than a BIN offer from other sellers, the cheapest. So do I stick this seller with negative, or let it go, ? I bid, I took time to be there to NOT get outbid, and now he can't deliver because he didn't realize he was short on product? Not MY problem! Buy a more expensive one from another dealer, and send it to me. Eat the cost. I spent my time to be there to watch the auction end, and get a better deal, now he says Oh well, how about a refund? Nyet! I don't think so. Opinons? I'm leaning towards either Negative if he only wants to refund money, or no feedback if I accept a similar , but not what I wanted/won, item. I'm pissed off. Can you tell?

You're justified in leaving negative feedback as long as you have an explanation as to why. The seller should have better control of their inventory as it's unethical to sell something you don't actually have. In addition, if you allow this incident to pass, it degrades the ratings of those sellers who actually follow the rules and have good feedback/scores. Maybe they will pay more attention and strive harder to improve their score afterwards. Make sure to get your refund first before leaving feedback. I see many B units with DCC on Ebay. You may have to wait a little longer but you'll get the one you want and you'll be happier in the long run.

That's pretty cool looking. It'd be neat to get a few consists like that running at the same time. It would look odd, but still neat

Sorry your ebay quest proved so elusive. I agree with Racer-13; take the refund and aim for the loco you need for something this specific. More positively, the Silver Sausage Express looks very APT which is always a good thing!

Well, the Seller came back and had the Erie unit. Sooooooooooo, I thought since it's THIS cheap, I can spend the other $'s I didn't spend on an additional shell, and still come out ahead, as I"ll have 2 shells to play with, not just one. I'd have had to customize the Burlington unit anyway, but it would have been SO close to what I wanted, would have been minimal. And I have several B shells around, I might be able to custom-fit one to this Bachmann chassis as well, so won't need a Burlington. So, while I DID decide to accept the switch, I will leave no Feedback on the auction. My club buddies said I'd pay about $60 for a unit, so I guess $23/33 w/shipping is a savings worth accepting a not-so-perfect outcome. I'll live with it, for the price.

The economics confused me but I'm glad you made it all work out. Really looking forward to seeing how this project comes together. Sounds great fun!

Here's a picture of my actual Silver Sausage running on my club's layout. Looks more like a woolly cattapillar than the SS, but it'll do for now. I'll have to modify the Tyco passenger cars, they don't like being pushed around with truck-mounted couplers. But it does work fairly well.
