The cityscenes kits are a perfect fit for my downtown urban metropolis I'm building. Unfortunately they elude me. I did manage to snag a variety store for $10 and to this day that's the only one I own.

If anyone is interested in getting rid of any of those kits I would be interested. I don't care about the condition of the box or if it's sealed. I'm only looking for a complete kit without damage to the actual parts themselves.

I have a few...and be prepared to pay $60-$90 a piece for The Ambassador & Metropolitan, should you go via eBay. There are 2 Variety Stores at Discount Model Trains in Addison, Texas...but I think you made mention of having that one.

There is also a Bus Station, Bailey Savings & Loan & a Department Store. I believe 6 in all.

Yes. Walthers and DPM come close...but those are perfect for a downtown urban scene.

About a year ago, maybe less, there was a kitbashed Ambassador Hotel selling on eBay. 2 kits were used. I forget how many stories tall he made it but it was close to twice the height. The workmanship was pretty good and the bids were crazy. Quite a structure it was.

The funny thing about these kits is how cheap they were when Bachmann dumped the line. And from what I know, they sold very poorly when introduced years back...hence Bachmann's lack of keeping them in its line.

I look 'em over from time to time in old B'mann catalogs and do see a couple that would work out well for me on my layout...but like ThOR said...be prepared to pay for them now.

Bachmann would be wise to flood the market once again. They would be snatched up. I wish they would at least sell their molds to someone else.

OK, you're talking to the guy that picked up a Sohio tanker for $1.67, also 8 great Tyco Diesels for $10.50, a PRR operating hopper for $3.50 and the magic box with $200 worth of goods for $25. I got to keep the box too!

Albeit one of the cheaper kits in the CityScenes line, I only payed $10 for the Variety store. I am a bargain hunter, the key is patience. I won't pay $80 for any of the big 3 but I bet you somehow I manage to get them for a max of $50.

The more everyone gets to know me here the more they will be saying "You payed how much for that?"

I'd bet the reason they weren't popular when new was because (to me at least) it seemed that the overly large, urban-themed layouts where these would actually look OK just weren't common enough back then.

Now, that's just about the "price of admission" to the hallowed pages of MR, etc....
