I always wondered why they used such a huge spotlight, it would blind anyone working on the nearby rails, how would you maneuver the caboose to get it there, and it's more a sky searching light than a ground-use type. It's a neat car, but totally unreaslistic I think from any operational point of view. I do have a few, I think conversion to a multi-light setup would be nice, for serious HO operations. I'll keep the Tyco's intact, though. :)

I always liked the Life-Like one better. I think it's just a more realistic & interesting car.

Mine were freebies left behind by a tenant...

...I think the TYCO is more prototypically plausible myself.

Hey All,

I have one of these. Very common but nifty none the less.

I use my Tyco floodlight car when I have a peddler freight that needs to reverse direction to head down the branch line. This way, I can run in reverse, with the floodlight acting as headlight at the new "front" of the train. It reminds me of when I worked on a BN local out of Fargo where we went caboose-first. The crew would stay in contact by radio with the loco engineer, and there was an air-operated whistle on the caboose to blow for the crossings, although I think we were required to stop for auto traffic while operating in this reverse position.

The ebay Spotlight car (above) is the Life-Like one that I favor. Avalible in two or three roadnames/colors. I had one of these in the 1970s and still like it today!

These cars never seem to demand much of a bid price...
