They are the hardest models to assemble that one could ever subject themselves to. Every hole needs to be drilled/tapped and all joints need to be soldered, a difficult thing to do with diecast zinc. One could assemble with epoxy but even that can be a trick on zinc. The valve gear is cast zinc as well, easily bent or broken and just a hoot to mesh together into a working drive.

I owned one of the 4-8-4 C&O Kanawhas and after two weeks of steady tinkering just to get the main rods on the drivers to work together (there were 8 individual rods, 4 to a side BEFORE the valve gear went on), I picked it up only to have the frame break behind the fourth driver. The rest of the kit had been assigned to the junkyard detail box (you see one of its air pumps on the nose of my Big Boy on my blog).

They did use a quality motor---Sagami (now in my scratchbuilt boxcab electric), and their wheelsets were great, it simply was not a good kit, even for an experienced model builder. I'd really be surprised if more than a handful were ever assembled.

Shagets quote "They are the hardest models to assemble".
Nope ! that honor goes to Winton. Aroubor Models were very hard to assemble. The Winton kits you needed a machine shop to build.
