Was anyone else aware that the Pacific had been added to the Mantua Classics line? I first found them on eBay, so I went to Model Power's site to check them out. They have both long haul and Vandy tender versions, depending on roadname.

Here's the list of features:
Detailed Description * METAL BODY, CHASSIS, HANDRAILS & BRASS BELL * NEW POWDER DIECAST METAL WHEELS ON FRONT & REAR TRUCKS AND TENDER * METAL CYLINDERS & WHEEL INSERTS FOR GREATER PULLING POWER * NEW FLYWHEEL DRIVE WITH UNIVERSAL BALL SHAFT FOR SMOOTH RUNNING, ENHANCED PERFORMANCE * NEW ALL WHEEL TENDER PICKUP WITH 9 PIN DSC * FRONT AND REAR LIGHTING * PRESENTED IN COLLECTORS GIFT BOX * EACH LOCO INCLUDES RAILER
Some of the best new features are the metal wheels on all of the trucks instead of plastic, and all-wheel tender pickup. Unless NWSL makes direct replacements, I don't know of any replacement metal wheels with axles that small in diameter for older engines. The new wheels really improve the appearance.
At $180 list, they aren't cheap anymore, unless someone sells them at a significant discount.

Agreed, NickelPlate759, they look fantastic! Trouble is, I can't decide which to get; Northern Pacific, Santa Fe... decisions, desicions. What's the availability of Mantua engines like? Are they likely to sell out of particular roads any time soon?

Ken, that's an oversized generator that the Southern needed to run the huge subwoofers they installed.
Gareth, I've never measured the drivers, so I don't know. I just noticed that most of them seem to have standard spokes instead of the Boxpoks they all used to sport.
EDIT: I just measured my old Tyco-Mantua Pacific, and I came up with 78".

| The green Southern you posted is the megaswish collectible version with all the bling, right catfordken? I wonder if Mantua will do a run of some of them for the new range. I hope so.

That's a great price, ER. Trainworld is a very reputable seller. M.B. Klein has them for $119, but at least they have some better photos.

I forgot to mention trainworld usually has code words for money off, these are listed in their ads in Model Railroader, not certain if the codes are in thier online ads. While ordering I forgot the code but mentioning I knew about it got the money off. It adds up to free shipping on most orders I've placed with them. Just checked their online ad, the code words are listed, it's on the first download ad.

Thanks for the info, Ken. They certainly are classy locomotives, think I'll drop Model Power a line to see if they plan on doing some more. I guess if enough of us ask, they just gotta see the demand is there.
