Hi Guys,
I'm new here! Nice place!!!

Anyway, I have a Mantua Mikado loco No. 312, 2-8-2, that runs slow on the track. It is new, but I think it is an older train. Does it just need a clean, and if so, how do I do it? Could the motor be bad? Maybe you could help me date it? I has a blue box.

Any help would be appreciated!

What type of power pack are you using?
The newer small trainset power packs don't provide enough amps to run the older locos.

Scintilla pack from the 50's. It works with all other trains on the board.

BTW, I just found a 12V DC Motor maintaince article on the Yardbird site.

Yes, but only for 1 trip around the the board (4'x8') and then it slows down. I haven't had time to clean the motor yet and oiling the motor didn't help.
