Hello, I was wondering if somebody could tell me how much all of this is worth. Lots of the cars say Santa Fe or S.F & D on them. Sorry for the picture quality. http://img375.imageshack.us/g/imag0645.jpg/

If you are selling them, I would break it up into lots. You might get $40.00. Most of the freight cars are common types and some are missing trucks. The car with the leaves on it may be worth something by itself. The two steam engines are worth about $5.oo each if they are plastic. $10 to $12 each if all metal. $5.00 for the diesel. The structures might go for $5.00 each.
Sold as one whole lot, $25.00.
I'm basing this on prices I've seen at train shows. Ebay prices might be a little different.
Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

It looks like the trains came from two train sets and at least one was at the low-end. The snap together track is an 18 inch radius oval and is very typical of low cost sets. Most modelers do not use this type of track. Another factor is evaluating is the maker of the train engines and cars. Then comes the type of wheels (metal or plastic) and the connectors. I suspect that the cars have plastic wheels and the horn & hook connectors. Both if these factors also lower the value.
You are fortunate that you chose this forum to ask the value question since "we" have a higher level of appreciation for these types of trains. I have seen similar questions posted on other forums where the answers were very less favorable.
However, you have not found a "treasure trove". Also, I must tell you that I have several cars in my collection that fall into the above categories and I am happy with them.
Take a look at the items posted in the Trading Post. They should also give you some excellent guidance.
Cheers Bill

| As was mentioned, there are some interesting cars there---I'd like the two container flats, the blue and white caboose and the Durango searchlight cars myself---but, as a lot, if I were to see it at a flea market, train show or yard sale, I'd pay $20 for the whole smack tops. Several pieces, if they were clean and complete, sold individually could push you to around $40. You'd have to Ebay them with really good pictures and make sure they were in very good condition though.

| If you're interested in selling the lot for somewhere in the price range above, I'd be interested in buying.
