hi guys I just got a 1981 overland gp 40x diesel the gear on the motor drive is split in one pl

ace can it be glued? or anyone know where to get a new one? It is a sagami motor thanks

they made of nylon or some other cheap plastic ok I lied SOME but not all plastic gears can be glued sometimes

Ken has the right idea. They have replacement gears for a few Overland locos, but don't list the GP40 specifically. I would contact them and ask.

I've repaired gears by gluing clamping them with a strong alligator clip across the split and using CA and accelerator, but the drive will be noisy because you can't close the split completely.

I think a lot of it depends on what you plan to do with the unit.

Is it a shelf queen? Leave it as-is.

Are you interested in originality, or do you plan to sell it for more than what you paid? Contact Overland directly, they'll likely point you in NWSL's direction for replacement gears.

Are you an operator and care about running characteristics, originality be damned? I'd find a way to mount Athearn trucks. They're bulleproof-reliable, parts are widely available, they're compatible with a Sagami motor with the right driveline parts (also available), and the locomotive will MU with pretty much any other brand of locomotive out there because the gearing has been standardized.
