A while back there were some of you wanting pictures of my train bldg. It is not big enough for all of my collection to be displayed but here are pictures of inside as requested. I have 4 2 light florescent shop lights over head with DAYLIGHT BULBS in each. Storage bins on bottom with accessories scenery and other model train related items. Post your train room, bldg, man cave or what ever you house your trains in

Since I'm planning a fairly large layout, I'm figuring on buying this vacant building pictured below.
Then if I deceide to expand, I should have plenty of room!!!

| That's nuts Brian, is that thing in a shed? lol. Looks good though, a work in progress I see! I admire the face your layout appears to double as a workbench!

WALT -
CHRIS - Thanks - yes it is doubling as workbench also. If i get to stay in my house -- as it is currently in foreclosure status due to the economy and me loosing over 50% of my income last year - i will either add on or get a larger bldg. It is not a shed - is a small storage bldg - came with the property and is well built to be small - just wish it was larger! - On a positive note - my job has picked up some and my income is climbing slowly back to where it use to be - but for how long i don't know - paying down debt and trying to get caught back up - i hopefully get to keep my house but if not..........

Hi Brian ; My layout is alot like yours pressed for space. Two mainline loops.I also have a lift out track section with a drop in fill in to even out the layout, Fill in the gap. I can't get clear picts due to not enough lighting. frank

Here is only part of my layout.I still have a 4x8 and a bridge section to put up(after i reorganize the basement some) Daughters just put the grass mat down last week, and put up the sides.I have 1 shoplite and soon will have 2-3 after the rest is put together, also have more buildings to put up but I am letting the kids use their minds on this one.

Royal Blue - yes the section at the door lifts up and is powered - The lift section is double tracked and feeder wires = Atlas NS wired rail joiners - are on each section. The track is 1 3ft flex with a 9 inch straight on each side. The wires are ran on the hinged side. I wired it in the up position so when it is lowered there is slack so when it is raised again it doesn't pull or break wires - Polarity must be the same as main track or trains will slam into reverse and forward and repeat
I will sometime Monday evening April 26th 2010 get pictures of hardware and track for you ( and anyone else) on here that i used to make my lift bridge.

Hello Brian, I would like to see how you did it too. After having my knee scoped last Thursday, a lift out looks really good...

Hi Erich - Those are kits. If you are looking at picture - left side is Bachmann Spectrum kit custom painted with Krylon Beige paint - The White bldg beside it is a DPM kit = it is called Vickies Fashions - don't know what for - Far back corner is a VOLLMER kit -now discontinued - on to the right of picture - First 2 are Kibri towers - these take a long time to assemble - The biege one is discontinued now - The last one to the right is a Bachmann Spectrum kit also - Custom painted in stone fleck paint by Krylon. The stone paint is very nice on certain structures for texture - i advise experimenting if you have never painted with stone paint as it sprays different than spray paint. Glad you like the sky scrapers - i am working on some custom ones i will reveal later this year sometime. I wish more manufacturers would make kits - there is a market for them - Kibri -Vollmer are the main ones i am aware of that currently offer anything close to skyscrapers

Here are pictures of my lift section - it has room for improvements- but is practical for me as it works. I have since thought of new designs -this was fastest i could think of at time as many have not built raised sections to my knowledge - it does take some experimenting and modification to get to work right - i failed the first couple of tries before getting this to work. MY example is a little over 3 feet and i used the following : 2X4 - 2 pcs of 2x4 approx 24 inches for hinges to mount to - corner braces of assorted sizes to connect to track section and another 2x4 pc about 6 inches for lift to rest on when in down position. Track = Atlas Nickel SIlver 3 ft flex sections (2) Atlas 9 inch snap(2) 2 pairs of track wire feeders by Atlas. 22 gauge wire to connect power to bridge form main track
This is the hinged side - The 2 smaller 2x4 pcs (approx 24+ inches long) are attached to track section by L braces

I used a small L brace to support track as i kept having derailments on this side from where it was notched.

this view is opposite end - The use of plastic shims under track may be necessary to get track even when lowered - The 9 inch sections are nailed at joiner end only to allow manual alignment when down

Back to the hinged side - notching of layout for track to clear when raising -I used a jigsaw and chisels to get track to clear - must be done even if track is at edge of table - you have to have a small gap

view with section lowered back down - track is even

view of resting block for bridge when lowered - attached with L Brace - must be level when attached so when lowered track aligns on this end

Feeder wires to power track - when adding feeder wires - wire in the up position so when lowered you have slack in wires so when raised again - the wires don't break - polarity is important and must be same as travel of train

Looks pretty organized to me. I'll bet you know were everything is. The bridge at the door is engineered well and very cool. I just saw this in the AM. Talk about a man cave :-)
