Without seeing better pictures. It is definatly Prewar Standard Gauge Could be Lionel or Ives or American Flyer. I would lean towards Ives. Carl Numquam Immoderatio Satis Est (Too Much Is Never Enough )

I think that the PL loco was made by the German firm Bing. A lot of German trains were imported to America before WW1. And Erich, I think you're right about it being #1 gauge.

i still think the original model was an ives but according to this link bing copied a lot of other makers goods and as erich is in the right area,could well be a bing copy of an ives ken http://www.tcawestern.org/bing.htm#bing

Gauge 1 was popular in the U.S. until Standard Gauge overtook it in the 1920's. The Diecast construction makes me think it is a Gauge 1 Ives. I don't know how correct the pantographs or wiring to them are. Perhaps it was modified to operate from a live overhead wire.X2F

Wow! I stand corrected. I never knew Bing made this particular model of electric engine. It has always been one of my favorite locos. I believe the prototype was in service up threw the 1970's. They pulled passenger trains into New York City after steam was banned in the early 1900's. Thanks for that great picture.X2F
