Yep, correct. It's the MDC/Roundhouse Climax. It uses the same underframe and drive as the Boxcab Diesel. Loud, but slooooooooowwwww runners.

Ken ; It is a MDC climax. The coal bunker area is different. A little kitbashing has been done to it. The bunker has been inlarged and some detail added. It looks OK. Did you test run it. They are veeeerrrry slow. frank

I like them for nostalgic reasons but, a McCullough chainsaw is sweet music compared to these things, they sound like cats in a clothes dryer...they do run nice and slow, as Kris pointed out, something that was still pretty novel in the '70s when they were offered. The Dec. '82 MR magazine has a good article on making improvements to it, both mechanically and in appearance.

Ken ; MDC is not the same now as it was before the takeover. The company is being run by who knows, I don't. They don't seem to be hobby people, only marketing people. just in it for the money. you can't get the old line of steam locos any more. I guess they were to good and lasted to long. Just the little old timers are offered now.

| i prefer the older locos even if they run rough, its a challenge to get them running smooth,i also like the basic detail, modern ones look good body wise, but are not for the rough handling that i give em ken
