Every Friday night from spring to fall - The local Hardees fast food restaurant hosts a local car show. Hardees is mainly found in the Southern states of the U.S. Other Hardees in the region also host car shows on their premises. This Hardees - Located on hwy 27 in Stanley NC - was the first to host a show like this for individuals to show off their classics or other vehicles and spread quickly to the other Hardees. Discounts on food purchases are given also for anyone who displays a vehicles - no fees are charged to show a vehicle. On certain Friday nights - local auto and business's donate prizes which are then given out by organizers on originality of vehicle or best of show- best of paint - best customized and raffle drawings.

Can't go wrong with a '57 Chevy...although I prefer the 1955 myself.

I'm really liking your Falcon, royal blue! I think the best looking Fords were made in the mid-sixties, and yours is no exception.

I like the '57 mostly because of the more pronounced fins ( and the fact that my Dad had 3 of them, and I have had that many, now only 2. )
We are hard up for Hardee's anymore in Virginia, there's a few but not many left. It's great to see an establishment promote that, because I remember when living in Richmond, VA in the '70's and 80's, Bill's Bar-B-Que was one of the places people used to hang out with old cars...then they ran people off because of a few young hot-rodders with no sense, and they lost basically ALL their weekend business...it was just deserted on Friday and Saturday nights. Sometimes you can worry about insurance concerns, but people want to have a place to go, and they'll find some place accomodating, and give them business. I think SHoney's and several other chains in Virginia now have a Friday or Saturday old car get-together weekly. If only one of my 20 old cars WERE running now...sigh.

I wish I knew enough about cars to maintain an older one. As for Hardees, we've got them here still. Farther South they're called Carl's Jr.

Glad to see the interest in classic old vehicles! -
Erich - everyone was gawking over that Bel-Air.
The reason i posted this is that at train shows i attend - many model railroaders Love classic and Muscle cars and old trucks -- whether you own one or desire one - and some even drive their vehicles to the shows. I have met some model railroaders and toy train collectors though who had muscle cars or classics and gave them up for trains because the trains were cheaper. They told me their vehicles drained their money which is true in a sense if you have ever owned a vehicle that you have restored. It does take a lot more money to maintain a classic vehicle especially if you show it. You only live once - so enjoy your passions what-ever they may be

Thanks Royal Blue and Brian, I picked it up in Feb. Have always wanted a 65 or 66 GT350 but they are very cost prohibitive. I had an '87 Dodge Shelby Charger for 21 years. It was fun but this one is better!!

Love the cars, guys! They all look great, but I especially admire the Falcon. A buddy of mine in high school had a black '65 Falcon. Something about the smell of those '60s cars is just great.
Here's my contribution...

ps... how many of you have MODELS of your cars on your layout? Not me yet. I have an HO El Camino model to assemble someday, trying to get a Matchbox '59 Impala, have never seen an HO Corvair.

My wife brought me some pics of my 1979 Trans Am. Smokey & the Bandit Special edition. I bought this car from a friend in 1984 and have owned it since. I put a brutal Chevrolet 454 bored 0.60 to 468, in 93. It fit nicely with no butchering at all. Car has the factory 4 speed completely rebuilt also. The body appears factory stock exactly as it was sold by GM in 1979, not a decal more, or a pinstipe less. Stereo is supplied by 4 Bose amps with 16 Bose speakers placed nicely thruout the interior. Alpine CD/Tuner feeds the Bose. Ohio Vanity license plate reads; SHAKE ME

It's funny that people assume that a big block cars get 10MPG (or less) It's that big cube number that has created that myth over the years.
This is a brutal but NOT over built 468 Chevy. Believe it or not driven respectfully, this car gets 17.9 MPG on the highway. A fresh correct Big engine creates loads of torque which creates tons of power while the engine is "loafing".. This engine easily moves this car down the highway and the 4 speed trans has a decent highway 4th gear. Paired with the original 323 rear end gear. IF i wanted to change the car (which I don't) I could add a high geared five or 6 speed and even get higher MPG..

Actualy Ben, many people expect a CB in a Bandit car. However, The 79 Bandit Trans Ams came heavily loaded with every option avalible for that year including the rare in it's day, rear wheel discs... But the Bandit cars were not CB equiped.
GM did offer CB's in their cars at one time but this option was not factory included in the 1979 Trans Am Bandit.

My 1981 Z28 was purchased in 1988. It is it's unusual factory color. Sports a big block 402 with complete rebuild with a mild towing cam. Auto transmission & T Top made this car a fun one. In 1990, a serious electrical fire under the dash burnt the interior out, dash wiring & hood and nearly distroyed the car. I decided a year later to rebuild it. Since I needed a whole wiring harness I got one from a Z28 with power windows, door locks and rear defrost then added those options. along with a tilt steering column..

I didn't know GM made a CB. Have any pictures?
I used to have a CB in the El Camino and have been meaning to put it back in just for fun. It came in handy on trips years ago before cell phones. And it was fun. Once a convoy of beer trucks passed me in PA, and my girlfriend at the time was wearing a miniskirt, and she had great legs. I told her to turn on the CB because the truckers were talking about her. Sure enough, they were, and she talked to them for most of our trip. It was pretty funny.

Hey Brian! Those are the most current pics I have. That pic was not taken in 1988, I am a bodyman painter by trade & I strive to keep my old cars with extremely nice paint & detail. I need to find a place to set up a pictorial for the Trans Am. I've owned it 26 years and have no extremely good photos of it.. The Trans Am is everyone's favorite with the 468 BBC and 4 speed. Seems like young & old love it because they seen the movie! The rear window visor has been removed from the TA since pic. That rear pic of the TA is an older one. Its the nicest photo of the car I have, and it's not that great in the ugly winter months.
I once had two guys stop at the house & ask me how I got the doors, hood & fenders lined up so well on my two cars. I had a guy at a gas station ask me how I get the black so shiney and he said my Trans Am kinda, "glows in the dark"
59 Chevy, I don't know alot about the old GM CB's... The were in the cars of the 80's I think. But I know they were avalible for some GM cars.

I think I have a GM AM/FM/CB radio stashed somewhere, I found it in a trunk of a car at a salvage yard, and bought it for $20 because I thought it was "neat". I also have an original AMC Am/Fm/CB in my '78 Gremlin. I may sell the GM unit eventually, if I run across it again I'll put it on Ebay, which is really why I bought it. The only two GM's I own now I treasure are a '57 Chevy 4-door sedan and a '55 Chevy Suburban.

This plate belongs to the Smokey Trans Am. I had a similar plate on this car since 1988. Done from the rock song "Shake Me", by Cinderella of that era. At the time Ohio only allowed 6 letters to a vanity tag. So that left me using "SHAK ME" until around the year 2000, when Ohio changed to a 7 digit tag.
