* A very different passenger set of the Pennsy is seen here. Four 70 foot cars, all Pullman built. Made in France under license of the Pullman Company, then imported here by the Pennsy. This is a special luxury train used on the Chicago run. All First Class Cars make up this train set. A 0-4-0t was used to position the train at it departure Depot at Bergen Point. This train brings European luxury to the American Railroad Scene. frank

Heard the coaches are very comfortable to ride in during the 16 hour trip to Chicago Frank. Will check them out during my next trip to see the Cubs and White Sox in action.
Months earlier I saw a local freight run at night in Bethlehem Pennsylvania.
Cold night days before Christmas.
Tranquil setting in the valley.
At a station stop to pick up a few passengers on this cold night in December.

The TF Railroader New. 7-11-2017 morning edition. Snoopy reporting.
I observed some action around the Frankford roundhouse at Bergen Point a few days ago. Some Pennsy built 0-6-0 switches were moved about. From service tracks to roundhouse stalls. What caught my eye was that they weren't Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives but Baltimore and Ohio ones. Loco numbers were 31019 and 31031. Here are a few photos. Snoopy.

The TF Railroader New. 7-11-2017 morning edition. Snoopy reporting. * Still another news release from the PGW. ** Two recently purchased steam locomotives, due to the large backlog of projects here, have been sent out to the PGW Saylorsburg Shops for rebuilding. First, an X- Santa Fe 2-8-0 will be after rebuilding permanently assigned to the Saylorsburg Shops. Second an old MA. and Pa. 2-8-0 will return here after rebuilding for assignment. The lettering of these locomotives will be up to the Superintendent of Maintenance Steve E-Paw. A surprise is no doubtly in our future. Snoopy

Nice work. I yearn for the day when trolleys ruled the rails, and roads. It must have been wonderful to take a trip to the country in an interurban. In El Paso we are getting some of our PCC trolleys back.

Fabulous P&W. I recollect that shorty as a start up and I wondered how the heck it was ever going to make it. I recollect they started out hauling a single commodity, like road salt, or something over a short 40 mile stretch.
Can't see a B&A box without thinking of the Great Potato Freeze back in the '70's. Up to that point, many Maine potatoe farmers shipped by rail. Seems that when the harvest got down to the NY region, the Penn Central didn't have enough money, or manpower, or money to pay the man power, so entire fleets of reefers ran dry and the potatoes, which were actually warmed, not cooled, froze destroying much of the harvest. Hear tell it put a lot of Maine potato farmers out of business, as the loads were not insured. Now all potatoes go by truck.
In the early 20th century, all potatoes moved by train, much of it on narrow gauge 3 footers. The "reefers" were box cars with saw dust insulation and coal stoves.
Still a lovely place, the three largest industries appear to be LL Bean, the US Navy, and tourism. A few potatoes out there.
