I have one of the circa 1963 HO '1890's" style 4-6-0's & the power pick up seems erratic in the corners.

Part of the pickup system uses the wheels on 1 side of the weighted tender & I noted that the way the tender trucks are screwed to a 'pedestal' on the underneath of the diecast chassis means there is quite a bit of tender body 'roll' in the corners. This is accentuated by the heavy weight in the bottom of the tender that sits above the center of gravity.

I was wondering if this could be altering the downwards pressure on the set of wheels that pick up the power from the rail as the tender navigates the corners?. The body noticeably 'flops' to 1 side then straightens up in a straight section of track. Then flops in the next corner.

Anyone tweaked this Loco to get better power pick up & if so how?

The Tyco Ten-Wheeler is slightly larger than HO, being closer to OO or 1:72 scale. The flopping could be corrected by an oldtimer's trick. ...tighten one truck 'til it can only swivel freely from side to side, then tighten the other until it's just free enough to swivel and tilt from side to side. This creates a three point suspension that works on most cars and locos very well.

I've had the same problem, which also exists to some extent with Tyco's Shifter w/Tender. I agree with the last post, except from what I remember on those tenders, the truck screws can tighten down all the way, but don't snug up the trucks. I suppose some kind of washer could be inserted somewhere to allow the truck to snug up. I've also taken a very thin shim (could be made out of alum. foil) and placed it between the tender floor and truck. This can help electrical pickup. One other item that I discovered inadvertently is that if you can move the wheels on the axles, widen their gauge a bit so that more often you've got the flange area contacting the rail and holding snug against it. Of course, you can't go too wide to affect operation. Chris
