While out with the wife tonight, we spent some time at HER request perusing the hardware aisles at Home Depot ( she's making hot air balloon wind chimes, and needs a center gong piece , so seeing what we could find to work). Anyway, I was looking at the specialized hardware drawers and ran across THESE :

THey're white instead of black, but do the same job. Good news is they're .44 cents for a pair, so that's about 25 with tax apiece. Better than Ebay prices! I stuck one in an AHM coal car, and had to whittle the lips back some on the sides, and it is still a tight fit, but maybe they'll fit Tyco better. I'll have to try it when I find some of mine that are missing trucks and pins. I bought two packages, to try in different manufacturer's cars. The size is 0.135 inch, you can't really see a dot in the picture, because it's not on the package. Its in one of the drawers of specialized hardware, it'll show the pushpin on the front of the drawer, at least at my Home Depot it did. Down near the floor.

Just thought I'd mention this, since people were looking for something similar, and these seem cheap enough and close enough in size to work ok, for the price. The head fit perfectly in this trucks hole, so I was pleased. Once I get a few more pins, I'll finish the other side. I looked for these at Lowe's, and didn't see anything like them there. just so you know, and probably be a waste of time looking.

Jerry - This is a great idea - some early Bachmann cars had push pins also

Hey Jerry,

I'm planning on making a wind chime this summer and I'm going to use a hockey puck for the center banging thing. That might be too big and clunky for your wife's project, but I just thought I'd mention it.

What a fantastic idea!!! My Home Depot didn't have those clips, but I tried 6-32 nylon screws. Also only .44 for two.

I cut them off to about the same length as a truck pin and had to file them down a little bit. They work great and the screw heads fit in the trucks OK, with and without couplers. They're nice and snug and don't fall out like the truck pins.

I'll cut off the coupler on the truck that still has one and body mount KayDees.

Thanks for the idea - I love it!

Good idea, Jerry. It seems like there's always an inexpensive substitute around if you look hard enough.
