In my collection of old Tyco, old Bachmann and old Athern F-7's and 9's, I notice a difference in truck wheel bases and tank length. Which model maker was more correct to the prototype?
Keep those Tyco's rollin'.

Ok. Since no one is going to answer, I will answer this one. I had already figured, and after some study, that Athern is the accurate one with Bachmann being very close as well. As many of you are already aware, Tyco made the motor truck in one size and scaled the side frames to match the wheel base. Thus the truck wheel base on F7's, F9's and C430's is longer than prototype. Speeking of the C430, it is not quite a C430. When compared to the prototype, there are missing engine compartment doors and other details, the steps behind the cab are too long and the fuel tank is too small. The trucks that Tyco used for this C430 are actually from the Alco C425. Well, I like tinkering also. So I am going to rebuild, repaint and add details to the 4 Tyco C430's that I have (changing out the Torque Drive for the older motor truck on one of them, I have not heard good things about that Torque Drive) creating a new model: the C428. Whats to say I can't do this since ATSF never owned ANY Century Series engines from Alco to begin with, as Tyco seems to sugest.
Keep those Tyco's rollin'.
