Hi all and thanks in advance for your help! I was born in 1976 so obviously I collect all the TYCO 1776 models :)

As for the others, I have 2 Chatanooga's and 1 New Clementine. For some reason, I can't get the smokers to work. I put the oil in the bell hole as intstructed but they will not smoke. One of the chatanooga's smokes so I know what I'm doing.

Can anyone on this board tell me how to possibly repair the heating element or tell me what to look for?

They never did. Maybe they worked better with the original Tyco smoke fluid, as I remember having better luck when my Chattanooga was new when I was kid, but all I've ever been able to get out of them in recent years is a thin wisp trying all different types of smoke fluid. There may be nothing wrong with the elements at all. If you run the loco at full voltage and get a small amount of smoke from the stack the element is okay.

It's also easy to flood them so that they won't work at all. Less fluid tends to be more.

I was just saying that the smoke unit never worked very well, but I didn't know that there were some without them. I guess the Mehano units didn't have one.
